CHANGE PLATFORMS

DESCRIBE ONLINE

Overview

In this section, we'll consider the platforms in two groups - platforms 1 - 6 and platform 7.

Platforms 1 to 6 lead directly to the concourse, whilst you reach the concourse from platform 7 via lift or stairs from the bridge.

The concourse is a long, rectangular space from which platforms 1 - 5 lead south and platform 6 runs along the west side. Platform 7 is a separate platform along the west side of the station.

Note that platforms 1 and 2 are seldom used and that platform 1 finishes some distance from the concourse, before the wall of the Union Square shopping mall.

Platforms 6 and 7 are divided into two sections, north and south, for use by shorter trains.

There is no tactile paving along the edges of any platforms in this station.

As you face the front of the train, the doors will open:

The above presumes that northbound services will terminate in the south half of the platforms, whilst southbound services will terminate in the north.

If you arrive on platforms 1 - 5, continue beyond the front of the train and beginning of the tracks. Higher numbered platforms will be to your left, whilst lower number platforms will be to your right. note the distinction about the shorter platform 1, above.

If you arrive on platform 6, make your way to the beginning of the south section of the platform then move away from track 6 for lower number platforms.

Which Route?

  From Platforms 1 - 6 to 7
From Platform 7 to Platforms 1 - 6

From Platforms 1 - 6 to 7

From Platforms 1 - 5

Continue, beyond the front of the train.

If you arrive on platforms 1 or 2 (seldom used) you'll find a glass barrier in front of you, move to your left then continue forward for a few metres before turning right to the gate line. Go through the gates.

From platforms 3 and 4, continue, between the low walls across the beginning of the tracks, into a rectangular space inside the gate line. Continue for a few metres into this area before turning right, towards the gate line. Go through the gates.

From platform 5, continue past the low wall across the ends of tracks 4 - 5, to your right, into the rectangular area inside the gates. Continue forward for a few metres before turning right towards the gate line, note that there are several large pillars in this area. Go through the gates.

From Platform 6

This platform is often considered as being in two halves, south and north.

From the South Section

Continue, towards, or beyond the front of the train, you may notice a change in floor surface as you reach the area outside the concourse. This is a rectangular space with several pillars. Turn right towards the gate line> Go through the gates.

From the North Section

Continue towards, or beyond the front of the train. You may notice a change in surface as you reach the area outside the concourse. This is a rectangular space with several pillars. turn left towards the gate line and go through the gates.

There's an assistance booth to your left of the gate line, where you can buy a ticket or get assistance. There are staff at the gate line, Wide Aisle gates are at the right-hand end with the automatic exits to your left of these. Go through the gates, into the concourse.

Turn left, you pass the rear of the assistance booth on your left, then a fence before you reach the foot of the first (south) stairs to the bridge. If you need the lift, continue, past a series of offices and billboards before you reach the lift door, on your left. The foot of the second (north) stairs is beyond this.

Via the Stairs

Using the first (south) stairs, go up a flight of steps, turn right then go up another flight, onto the bridge and turn left. Take the first turning right and go down two flights of steps onto platform 7.

There's a help point to your right as you reach the foot of the stairs and the gate line is in front of you. The Wide Aisle Gates are at the left-hand end, with two regular automatic gates to your right of these.

Go through the gates, turn right and follow the right-hand side, just beyond the end of the gate line, before turning left onto platform 7 north, or right, towards platform 7 south.

We believe platform 7 south starts beyond the end of the fence which would now be on your right. This fence retreats to your right, beyond the stairs and lift. Note that there's a signal post in the middle of the platform just beyond this.

GO TO END

Via the Lifts

See the lifts page for details.

The call button is to your right of the door. Go up to bridge level, leave via the other set of doors and continue, following the left-hand side.

Go down to platform level, leave via the other set of doors then turn right (180 degrees) and continue, past the stairs on your right, to the gate line in front of you.

There's a help point to your right, at the foot of the stairs. If you need this, turn right at the foot of the stairs and continue to the fence in front of you. The gate line is in front of you. The Wide Aisle Gates are at the left-hand end, with two regular automatic gates to your right of these.

Go through the gates, turn right and follow the right-hand side, just beyond the end of the gate line, before turning left onto platform 7 north, or right, towards platform 7 south.

GO TO END

From Platform 7 to Platforms 1 - 6

The exits from this platform are behind a small gate line which faces along the north section of the platform. As you approach from the north, you'll find the gate line jutting out, in front of you, beyond the signal post in the middle of the platform.

As you approach from the south, you'll find a fence jutting out in front of you, before the lift, this is beyond the signal post in the middle of the platform. Move right, and follow the fence on your left to the end then turn left, to the gate line.

If you need assistance, there's a help point beside the foot of the stairs. Whilst facing the gate line, turn left, then right and follow the fence till you find the help point on your right, beside the foot of the stairs.

Go through the gates then move to the left-hand side and continue forward for the stairs. Otherwise, for the lift, move right and follow the right-hand side till you reach the fence in front of you then turn left and left again towards the lift door.
