Find a platform from an entrance

Overview

Platforms 1 to 6 are accessed directly from the concourse, whilst platform 7 is reached via lift or stairs from the bridge.

The concourse is a long, rectangular space from which platforms 1 - 5 lead south and platform 6 runs along the west side. The taxi rank is at the north end, whilst the two entrances from the Union Square shopping mall lead into the east side, as does the entrance from the travel centre.

Note that platforms 1 and 2 are seldom used and that platform 1 starts some distance from the concourse, beyond the wall of the Union Square shopping mall.

There is no tactile paving along the edges of any platforms in this station.

From Which Entrance?

From the Taxi Rank

As you come into the concourse, the doors towards the travel centre are to your left, the stairs and lift to the bridge are on the right-hand side, with the gate line towards platforms 1 - 6, towards the far end on your right.

To Which Platform?

To Platforms 1 - 6

Continue, to the far end of the concourse, there's a glass barrier between you and the lower numbered platforms, turn right, continue to the fence in front of you then turn right and follow the left-hand side to the gate line.

Go through the gates.

For Platforms 1 - 2

Turn left then follow the left-hand side round to your left and continue to the wall, in front of you. Turn right, you're now on platform 2, continue forward, beyond the end of the wall on your left, for platform 1.

Note that these platforms are seldom used.

GO TO END

For Platforms 3 - 4

Turn left and continue forward onto the island platform. Note that there's a wall across the ends of tracks 2 - 3 and 4 - 5, but no tactile paving along the edge of the platform.

GO TO END

To Platforms 5 and 6 South

Having gone through the gates, you're in a rectangular space with several pillars, platform 6 is in front of you, with no tactile paving. Note that there's a wall across the end of tracks 4 - 5, a few metres to your left (about 10:30). Move beyond this then turn left along the platform. Platform 5 is to your left, whilst platform 6 south is to your right.

To Platform 6 North

Having gone through the gates, you're in a rectangular space with several pillars, platform 6 is in front of you, with no tactile paving. We suggest you move to the right-hand side of this space, beyond the assistance booth, then move left then right onto platform 6 north.

Go up two flights of steps onto the bridge then turn right. Take the first turning right and go down two flights of steps onto platform 7.

There's a help point to your right as you reach the foot of the stairs and the gate line is in front of you. The Wide Aisle Gates are at the left-hand end, with two regular automatic gates to your right of these.

Go through the gates, turn right and follow the right-hand side, just beyond the end of the gate line, before turning left onto platform 7 north, or right, towards platform 7 south.

We believe platform 7 south starts beyond the end of the fence which would now be on your right. This fence retreats to your right, beyond the stairs and lift. Note that there's a signal post in the middle of the platform just beyond this.

From the Travel Centre

As you go in from Union Square, there's a door into the north passage to your left. You could turn left, go through this door then turn right and continue, through another set of doors, into the concourse.

If you need a ticket, or information, continue forward. You should find a queuing rail to your right, continue round the end of this, the sales/information desks are then to your left. At the time of our survey, we found no preference for same day or advance bookings. From here, it may be better to turn right, from the desk, continue back to the entrance to Union Square, then turn right and leave via the set of doors to your right, into the north passage. Turn right and continue, through another set of doors, into the concourse.

You can leave the shopping mall via either of two sets of doors. The right-hand (north) set leads you into the passage beside the travel centre, described above, whilst the left-hand (south) set leads via a passage into the concourse.
