This is the terminus of the East Coast Line from London King's Cross via Edinburgh and is also the terminus for the Aberdeen to Inverness line.
A rectangular concourse, lying south of the taxi rank, gives level access to six platforms running approximately north/south, numbered 1 to 6 from east to west.
Platforms 1 to 5 are terminus platforms leading south, whilst platform 6 is a through platform running to the west of the concourse. Platform 6 is divided into a north and south section. Platforms 1 - 2, 3 - 4 and 5 - 6 south are island platforms. Whilst platform 6 north is a separate platform lying west of the concourse and taxi rank. Platform 1 is a short platform, starting some distance south of the concourse, beyond the wall of the Union Square shopping mall.
Platform 7 is another through platform, divided into a north and south section, running along the west side of the station. A bridge gives lift and stairs access between this platform, the concourse and the car park, which lies to the west of the station.
This station is gated. The gate line in the concourse runs north from the left-hand (south) side of the concourse, as you come in from the travel centre or Union Square shopping mall. The gate line on platform 7 runs east/west across the foot of the stairs from the bridge.
There is step-free access from Guild Street to the concourse, via the Union Square shopping mall and from Union Square itself via the travel centre and taxi rank. There is step-free access between the concourse and platforms 1 - 6.
There is lift and stairs access between the long stay car park, the concourse and platform 7 via the bridge.
We therefore believe this station is accessible to Guide Dog and wheelchair users.
