This is a through station on the line between Glasgow Central and Stranraer, though some services from Glasgow Central terminate here.
The tracks run approximately northeast/southwest between platforms 3 and 4. Platform 4, which is divided into a north and south section lies along the southeast side of the station, whilst platform 3, also divided into a north and south section lies on the northwest side of the tracks.
Platforms 1 and 2 are bay platforms with platform 1 running northeast along the northwest side of the station and platform 2, sharing an island platform with platform 3 north.
The concourse, including the ticket office is southwest of platforms 1 and 2, and adjacent to (northwest of) platform 3 south.
A bridge, which provides stairs access between platforms 1 - 3 and 4 is about at the dividing point of the two sections of platforms 3 and 4.
There is step-free access to platform 1 - 3 from Smith Street via the concourse. There is also step-free access to platform 4 from Station Road. There is also a step-free route between platform 4 and other platforms via Station and Homeston roads and Smith Street, see the Environs page for details.
There is stairs access between platforms 1 - 3 and 4 via the bridge.
We therefore believe this station is accessible to Guide Dog and wheelchair users.
