This is a through station on the line from Glasgow Central to Kilmarnock, Dumfries and Carlisle. It is also the terminus for some local services from Glasgow Central.
The tracks run approximately northeast/southwest, on a raised viaduct.
There are three platforms, numbered 1 to 3 from the southeast. Platform 1 is a separate platform along the southeast side of the station, whilst platforms 2 - 3 are on the northwest.
Platforms 1 and 2 are through platforms. We understand that platform 1 serves southbound trains towards Kilmarnock, Dumfries and Carlisle, whilst platform 2 serves eastbound trains towards Glasgow Central. We noted 2 and 4 car stop signs behind the rear of these trains, which suggests that these platforms may sometimes be used bi-directionally.
Platform 3 is a bay platform, beside the northeast half of platform 2.
The ticket office is at street level, being under the tracks towards the southwest end of the station.
There is step-free access from street level into the ticket office, from which there is lift access to platform 1 and stairs access to all platforms. There is ramp access from Arthurlie Street onto platforms 2 - 3. We therefore believe the station is accessible to Guide Dog and wheelchair users.
