FIND A PLATFORM FROM AN ENTRANCE
There is level access from the forecourt onto platform 1, eastbound towards Edinburgh. There is lift and stairs access to platform 2, westbound, towards Glasgow and Helensburgh, via the bridge.
There is tactile paving along the edge of each platform.
If you leave Edinburgh road via the entrance road to the forecourt, I think it's easier to follow the right-hand side. From here, there is just one crossing onto the pavement outside the station.
As you reach this pavement, turn left. You pass the gap in the fence, directly onto platform 1, before you reach the station building, which includes the ticket office, on your right.
Note that the canopy outside this building is supported by three pillars which lean outwards from the building, you'll need to pass one of these before you can turn right for the ticket office entrance. Similarly, if you reach the pavement via either of the other crossings, you'll need to pass two pillars on your left before turning left to the entrance. See the Environs page for details.
As you go in, via automatic doors, from the forecourt, the sales windows, with variable height counters and induction loops are in front of you, to your left (about 11 o'clock), whilst the automatic doors to platform 1 are in front of you. We believe you're beside the front half of longer trains and about in the middle of shorter ones.
You pass the door to the lift, then the steps to the bridge, on your right before you reach the platform. We believe you're about in the middle of longer trains and beside the rear half of shorter ones.
If you reach platform 1 from the forecourt, the door to the lift is to your right. Alternatively, you can turn right beyond this and continue forward for the steps.
If you come out of the ticket office, turn right and continue to the gap in the fence on your right. From here, you can turn right and locate the lift door on your left, or continue forward for the steps.
The call button is to your right of the door. Go up to bridge level, leave via the other door then move forward a couple of metres before turning left. Continue to the end of the bridge and take the turning left. The lift door is in front of you with the call button to your right of the door. Go down to platform level, leave via the other door and turn left onto the platform. We believe you're beside the front half of the train.
GO TO END
Go up two flights of eight steps, turn right (180 degrees) then go up two more flights of eight steps, onto the bridge. Turn right, continue to the end then turn right again. Go down two flights of eight steps, turn right (180 degrees) then go down two more flights of eight steps and turn left onto the platform. We believe you're beside the front of shorter trains and beside the front half of longer ones.
HOW DO I…?
