The station is on a raised viaduct which runs about east/west to the north of Cross Gates Road, which for the purposes of this guide we’ll describe as east/west. The station is located between Hamilton Road (north/south) to the west and Motherwell Road (north/south) to the east. Again these directions are approximate and are simplified for convenience.
Belvidere Road leaves Motherwell Road, a few metres south of the station, to join Cross Gates Road, about 100 metres east of Hamilton Road.
We consider four entrances/exits to this station:
As you go (north) along the right-hand (east) side of Hamilton Road, from Cross Gates Road, you cross two access roads before you reach the turning right (east) to platform 1. This is just before (south of) the bridge where Hamilton Road goes under the tracks.
Turn right (east), up the ramp, there’s a hand rail along the right-hand (south) side, in front of the wall, which gives way to railings towards the top of the ramp. You pass the station building on your left, note that there is no direct entrance to this from the south, before you reach the turning left onto platform 1. Note that the path continues, down a ramp to Motherwell Road.
Turn left (north), beyond the building and continue past the building on your left, onto platform 1. Turn left (west) and find the door to the ticket office on your left (south) there’s a push button to your left (east) of the door.
As you go (north) along the left-hand (west) side of Motherwell Road, from Belvidere Road, you pass housing on your left as you go up the first slope of the ramp. There's a hand rail on each side as you reach the top of this slope.
Turn left (west) and continue, up the slope, there's a hand rail to each side. Turn right (north) at the top of the slope, just before the station building and continue past the building on your left, onto platform 1. Turn left (west) and find the door to the ticket office on your left (south) there’s a push button to your left (east) of the door.
Continue north on the east side of Hamilton Road, under the bridge, then take the turning right (east).
This is a road leading to the north car park, follow the right-hand side, up the ramp. You pass the steps up to platform 2 on your right. Continue up the slope and take the turning right (south), this is the step-free path to platform 2. The steps to the bridge are to your left.
Neilson Road leads west from Motherwell Road, a few metres north of the bridge, follow the left-hand side. You turn left (south) into a small car parking area then right and go up ten then ten steps, going west, to the north car park of the station. The path towards Hamilton Road is in front of you, take the turning left (south) towards the platform. The steps to the bridge are to your left.
This is a single-stage crossing with tactile paving. The post with push button and rotating cone is to your right as you cross in either direction.
This is a single-stage crossing with tactile paving and sounder. The post with push button and rotating cone is to your right as you cross in either direction.
There is no pedestrian controlled crossing, though this seemed a relatively quiet road at the time of our survey.
There are railings along the kerb edge, from Belvidere Road to the crossing. This is a single-stage crossing with tactile paving and sounder. The posts with push button and rotating cone are south of the crossing, that is to your right as you cross away from the station.
The bus stop is about 100 metres south of Belvidere Road, number 6106362, with no shelter, called Bellshill Motherwell Road/Alice Avenue. This serves:
Going east from Belvidere Road, you cross a dip in the pavement before reaching the bus stop.
Bus stop number 6160369, Bellshill Cross Gates Road/Park Drive, with shelter, serves:
There's a large car park to each side of the station. For convenience, we'll call that beside platform 1 the south car park and that beside platform 2, the north car park.
