This is a through station on the lines between Glasgow or Edinburgh and Aberdeen, which run approximately north/south through the station.
The station is established on two levels, street level and the lower, platform level. We noted steps and lift coverage of a higher level which we believe is not accessible to the public.
The main and side entrances lead into an upper concourse from which steps (leading south) or a lift lead to the lower concourse, which is at the north end of the platforms.
A single island platform has platform 1, southbound along the east side and platform 4, northbound, along the west. There are two bay platforms in the south of this island, such that platform 2 lies beside platform 1 and platform 3 lies beside platform 4.
The station building is divided into three sections by two passages between platforms 1 and 4. The north section includes the concourse, cafe and bar; the middle section is not for public use, whilst the third (south) section includes the waiting room at the far (south) end.
The first (north) passage leads to an emergency exit, which is not normally for public use, whilst the second (south) passage leads to the toilets.
There is stairs and lift access throughout this station. We therefore believe the station is accessible to Guide Dog and wheelchair users.
