The Platforms |
Describe Online |
This is a single island platform running north/south with platform 1 lying west of platform 2. Note that this is physically a terminus platform as trains travel south from Roy Bridge then leave north toward Mallaig. There is no tactile paving along the edge of either platform.
The entrance/exit to the ticket office is at the south end of the island platform. The canopy extends about half way along the platform. There's a row of round lamp posts along the middle of the platform between the north end of the platform and the canopy. There's a row of square pillars along the middle of the platform supporting the canopy.
Platform 1 is normally used for services between Glasgow and Mallaig, whilst platform 2 is for the sleeper service to London Euston. There's also a steam train between Fort William and Mallaig. If this is late, the train from Glasgow Queen Street to Mallaig can use platform 2. This is a long platform compared with the length of the trains which normally serve this station. During the day, the four car sleeper is normally parked in the siding to the west of track 1.
There's no tactile paving along the edge of either platform.
