The upper level of this station is the terminus for routes to Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness, plus the West Highland Line to Fort William, Mallaig and Oban. Local services to Falkirk Grahamston and other destinations are also served by this level.
The lower level is a through station for services to Balloch, Milngavie, Helensburgh and Dalmuir (to the west) and to Drumgelloch, Springburn and other destinations, to the east.
The station is established on two levels. The upper level includes the concourse, platforms 1 - 7, the travel centre and other services, whilst the lower level includes platforms 8 - 9.
The upper level platforms, which run north from the concourse, are numbered 1 - 7, from west to east. Platforms 1 - 2, 3 - 4 and 5 - 6 are island platforms, whilst platform 7 is a separate platform along the east side of the station. Platform 1 is a shorter platform than the rest, beginning beyond (north of) the buildings along the west side of the station. Platform 7, also offers lift access to each lower level platform.
The concourse is a rectangular space divided into two sections by the gate line, which runs east/west. The section outside the gates has the George Square entrance to the south, the Dundas Street entrance to the west and the North hanover Street entrance to the east.
The travel centre is on the west side of the concourse, whilst the left luggage and toilets are to the east. There are retail outlets around three sides of the concourse. There's a row of features across the middle of the concourse, from the left-hand (west) end, these include seats, ticket machines, seats and phones.
Platforms 8 - 9, at the lower level, are separate platforms running east/west with platform 8 westbound lying south of platform 9 eastbound. These platforms can be reached via steps at either end, or via lifts in the middle.
There is step-free access between street and upper levels plus lift access between the lower and upper levels. We therefore believe this station is accessible to Guide Dog and wheelchair users.
