Find an exit from a Platform

Describe Online

Overview

There is step-free access from platform 1, westbound to Kemp Street. There is level access from platform 2, eastbound, onto Station Road and the car park in Duke Street. See the Environs page for more details.

There is stairs access between platforms via the bridge.

The doors will open on your left as you face the front of the train. There is no tactile paving along the edge of either platform.

From Which Platform?

  From Platform 1, Westbound
From Platform 2, Eastbound

From Platform 1, Westbound

The ramp to Kemp Street is beside the front of longer trains, but beyond the front of shorter ones.

We believe the steps to the bridge are near the rear of the train.

For Kemp Street

For shorter trains, the 3 car stop sign is on the third post from the beginning of the path, whilst the six car stop is just beyond this opening. Note that all the posts are about in the middle of the platform, we therefore suggest you get off the train and cross the platform before turning right. The path you need leads from the left-hand half of the platform, whilst the right-hand half continues for a few metres before you reach the slope off the end.

Continue onto the path which curves left as you go up the slope. There's a hand rail to your right. At the top, you're in Kemp Street. You can turn left here and continue, up the slope into Gateside Street.

GO TO END

Via the Bridge

The posts are along the middle of the platform, as are the steps to the bridge. If you came from the front of the train, you could, therefore, go to either side of these steps and overshoot them. Note, it's possible to walk underneath the back of these steps if you come from the rear of longer trains, or have to make your way back again, having overshot.

Fortunately, there's a distinct drainage channel along the platform, which should provide an excellent guide. Get off near the front of the train, move forward to this channel then turn left and, keeping the channel on your right, continue to the foot of the steps, in front of you.

Go up a flight of steps, turn left then go up another flight onto the bridge. Continue, down a flight of steps then turn left and go down another flight onto platform 1.

From here, you can turn left (180 degrees) and continue into the covered walkway to the municipal car park, or continue forward for the exits to Station Road.

The door to the ticket office is the second door on your right, there's a push button on a rail to your right as you face the door. As you go into the ticket office, the sales window with variable height counter and induction loop is to your right. The exit door is on the opposite side of the office, with a push button to your right of the door.

Alternatively, you can continue, beyond the ticket office building, then turn right and continue into Station Road, the taxi rank is immediately to your left as you reach the pavement.

GO TO END

From Platform 2, Eastbound

The walkway to the municipal car park is beyond the front of the train. We believe the gap to Station Road is beside the rear half of longer trains and behind the rear of shorter ones, whilst the steps to the bridge are beside the front half of longer trains and about in the middle of shorter ones.

For the Car Park

Get off near the front of the train, cross the platform, turn right and continue along the walkway. If you get off near the rear of the train, you'll have to go round the steps to the bridge, which jut out from the left-hand side of the platform. You then must follow the left-hand side, otherwise you may miss the walkway and go down the slope off the end of the platform.

GO TO END

For Station Road

As you go from the front of the train, you pass the rear of the steps to the bridge, which jut out from the right-hand side, note you can walk underneath these steps, be careful!

Beyond these steps, the door to the ticket office is the second door on your right, there's a push button on a rail to your right as you face the door. As you go into the ticket office, the sales window with variable height counter and induction loop is to your right. The exit door is on the opposite side of the office, with a push button to your right of the door.

Alternatively, you can continue, beyond the ticket office building, turn right and continue into Station Road, the taxi rank is immediately to your left as you reach the pavement.

GO TO END

For Kemp Street

Get off near the rear of the train, turn right and continue, following the left-hand side, to the foot of the steps to the bridge, which are in front of you. Go up a flight of steps, turn right and go up another flight onto the bridge. Continue, down a flight of steps then turn right and go down another flight onto platform 1.

We suggest you now follow the left-hand side, past the waiting room and continue onto the path. Note that, if you're too far to your right, you'll go down the slope off the end of the platform, which is a few metres beyond the start of the path.

The path curves to your left as you go up the slope, there's a hand rail along the right-hand side. As you reach the top of the slope, you're in Kemp Street, from here you can turn left and continue, up the slope, onto Gateside Street.
