The Bridge

Describe Online

Overview

The original bridge has now been removed and a new bridge has been built at the west end of the station. This provides stairs and lift access between each side of the station and the island platform.

To Reach

From the Churchill Drive Entrance

Between numbers 126 and 132 churchill Drive, you turn away from the street and follow the path which turns left after a few metres. From here, you can continue forward for the steps, in front of you, or follow the left-hand side, which turns left (south) then right again (west) towards Lift 3, which is behind the steps. Note that it is possible to walk underneath these steps, be sure to turn right then left to avoid this when you leave the lift.

You go up 3 x 13 steps, going west. The second landing slopes up slightly. There's tactile paving at the top and bottom of these steps.

From the Platform

Lift 2 is at the west end of the platform. Alternatively, you can go up 16 then 17 steps, going west, onto the bridge. There's tactile paving at the top and bottom of these steps. Note that, when coming out of this lift at platform level, you need to move either left or right to avoid the rear of the steps, in front of you.

From the Gartnavel Entrance

As you reach the T-junction, turn right (west). Note that the left-hand (east) turn leads to steps down onto the path towards the subway.

From here, you can continue forward (west) towards the steps, or follow the right-hand side which veers right (north) then left again (west) towards the Lift 1. Note, when levaing this lift at platform level, you need to move to your left to avoid the rear of the steps, in front of you.

If you use the steps, you go up 17 then 17 steps, going west, onto the bridge. There's tactile paving at the top and bottom of these steps.

Layout

This is a straight forward bridge with blank walls at each end. The three lifts, numbered 1 to 3 from the north, are on the west side, whilst the steps are on the east, opposite the lifts.
