The station is in a raised viaduct on the west side of New Street, (north/south), opposite a large Asda store. New Street turns east at the Rivergate Roundabout, just south of the station from which Riverway runs south past the Rivergate retail park.
A subway, south of the station includes Montgomery Street (west) to Cochrane Street (north/south), to the west of the station.
Harbour Road also runs north/south past the station, at an intermediate level between Cochrane Street and the tracks. Details of how this joins the lower level lie beyond the scope of this survey.
There are three entrances/exits to this station:
The forecourt, on the east side of the station building extends to the car park (up three steps, going south) and to New Street (up two steps, going east). There is step-free access from the north side of this space.
You can go through either of two sets of double doors, leading west into the ticket office. From here you can continue forward to the sales windows, turn right then left for platform 1 or left then right for platform 2.
The foot of the ramp is on the right-hand (south) side of Montgomery Street, as you move away from New Street. You go up a ramp going south , turn left (180 degrees, north) then continue to the top of this second ramp before turning right onto the south end of the platform.
The foot of this ramp is just north of the station building. You go up the first ramp going west. turn left (south), go up the second ramp before turning right and right again (north) before continueing up the third ramp onto the south end of the platform.
There's a crossing just north of the forecourt, opposite the subway. This is a single-stage crossing with tactile paving and sounder. The post with push button and rotating cone is to your right as you cross in either direction.
We noted a traffic island just north of the Rivergate roundabout, though this is not a pedestrian crossing. Montgomery and Cochrane Streets, appeared to be relatively quiet side streets at the time of our survey.
Harbour Road seemed busier, though there is no direct route to this from the station.

There are three steps leading up south from the forecourt to the station car park. There are bollards across the top of these steps.
You continue south, between parking spaces, there are various bins in the northwest corner of this space and disabled persons parking bays on the left-hand (east) side. There's a taxi drop-off point south of the steps.
The entrance/exit road is off the Rivergate roundabout which lies east of the car park. The car park extends some distance south, beside the tracks.
There is no tactile paving to either side of the access road.
