Overview

The main exit from this station is to the forecourt which is between platforms 2, serving trains towards Ardrossan and Largs and platform 3, serving faster trains towards Glasgow Central. There is step-free access from these platforms directly onto the forecourt.

There is step-free access from platform 1, serving slower trains towards Glasgow Central to the northwest car park and Ashgrove Road. There is also step-free access from platform 4, serving trains towards Troon, Ayr and Stranraer onto McGavin Way. Note that the ramp from platform 4 may be steep for some users.

There is stairs-only access via the bridges between platforms 1 and 2 and between platforms 3 and 4.

There is no tactile paving along the edge of any platforms in this station.

As the road exits from this station are quite close together, we'll restrict these directions to:

From Which Platform?

As you go from the front of the train, you pass the waiting room, then the gap to the northwest car park, before you reach the foot of the steps to the bridge, in front of you.

As you go from the rear of the train, you pass the four pillars supporting the bridge, behind the steps. Note you can walk underneath these steps, be careful! Go beyond the foot of the steps then turn back.

There's tactile paving before the foot of the steps. You go up a flight of steps, turn left and go up another flight onto the bridge. Continue, down a flight of steps, turn left then go down another flight onto platform 2.

From here, you can take the first turning right then turn left for the taxi rank. Alternatively, you could take the second turning right, just before the station building. You can then turn right for the taxi rank or continue forward for the bus stop. The bus stop is then on your right, just before the entrance to the ticket office, on your left.

From Platform 2

As you go from the front of the train, you pass the pillars supporting the bridge. Note that you can walk underneath the steps, be careful! Go beyond the steps.

From here, you can take the first turning right then turn left for the taxi rank. Alternatively, you could take the second turning right, just before the station building. You can turn right for the taxi rank or continue forward for the bus stop. The bus stop is then on your right, just before the entrance to the ticket office, on your left.

As you go from the rear of the train, you pass the station building on your left. There's a recess to the entrance to the ticket office on your left, with a push button before the door. Continue beyond the building then turn left. You can turn right for the taxi rank or continue forward for the bus stop. The bus stop is on your right after a few metres.

From Platform 3

As you go from the front of the train, you pass the station building. There's a recess to the entrance to the ticket office, with the push button beyond the door. Continue beyond the building and turn right. The bus stop is on your left, just beyond the entrance to the ticket office, on your right. Continue, to the gap onto platform 2, in front of you before turning left for the taxi rank, on your left after a few metres.

As you go from the rear of the train, you pass a gap to the car park, just beyond the British Transport Police building, the second gap to the car park is just before the foot of the steps to the bridge. There's tactile paving before the foot of these steps. You can continue, beyond the steps and take the next turning left, just before the station building, described above.

From Platform 4

As you go from the front of the train, you reach the pillars supporting the bridge. Note that you can walk underneath the steps, be careful! Continue, beyond the foot of the steps then turn back.

As you go from the rear of the train, you find the foot of the steps to the bridge, in front of you.

There's tactile paving before the foot of these steps. You go up a flight of steps, turn right and go up another flight onto the bridge. Continue, down a flight of steps then turn left and go down another flight of steps onto platform 3. From here you can take the first turning right into the car park, the second turning right just before the British Transport Police building or turn left (180 degrees) then take the turning left, just before the station building, for the bus stop or taxi rank. The bus stop is on your left, just beyond the entrance to the ticket office, on your right. Continue to the gap to platform 2 before turning left for the taxi rank.

To Ashgrove Road

As you go from the front of the train, you pass the waiting room before the turning right into the northwest car park and the steps to the bridge, with tactile paving before the foot of the steps. Continue beyond the steps for the turning right towards Ashgrove Road.

As you go from the rear of the train, you pass the turning left towards Ashgrove Road before you reach the pillars supporting the bridge. Note that you can walk underneath the steps, be careful! Continue beyond the steps for the turning left into the northwest car park.

If you go into the car park, there's a vehicle pick-up/drop-off point to your right. If you take the turning towards Ashgrove Road, turn left and continue up the hill onto Townhead.

To McGavin Way

The exit to McGavin Way is beyond the front of the train. As you go from the rear of the train, you reach the foot of the steps to the bridge. There's tactile paving before the foot of these steps, continue beyond the steps and the pillars supporting the bridge then follow the left-hand side of the platform. If you go too far to the right, you'll find the slope off the end of the platform, move left to find the path you need.

Follow the path, up the hill, onto Townhead, Byres Road begins to your left, from the other side of McGavin Way.
