This is a through station on the line between Glasgow Central and destinations on the west coast including Ardrossan, Ayr, Largs, Stranraer and Troon.
The station is just beyond (southwest of) the point where the line from Glasgow branches left towards Troon Ayr and Stranraer and right towards Ardrossan and Largs. Although these lines continue to diverge as you move southwest, we'll consider the platforms as being oriented northeast/southwest for convenience. The station building, which includes the ticket office, plus the main forecourt are effectively on an island platform, between the two branches of the line.
There are four platforms:
There's a bridge across each branch of the line, in the southwest half of each platform. We'll call the bridge between platforms 1 and 2 the northwest bridge and that between platforms 3 and 4 the southeast bridge.
There is step-free access from Townhead to all platforms plus the ticket office. Platform 1 can be reached via Ashgrove Road, platforms 2 and 3 via Station Road and the forecourt, whilst platform 4 can be reached via McGavin Way.
There is stairs access between platforms via the bridges.
We therefore believe this station is accessible to Guide Dog and wheelchair users, though some users may find the slope between McGavin Way and platform 4 a bit steep.
