Overview

The platforms are divided into sections named alphabetically from west to east, though this naming is not at all consistent. Read the General Description Page for more details.

Our directions from platforms 9 to 17 relate to the main (west) bridge which connects these platforms to the area in front of the gates.

Our directions to platforms 9 to 17 also relate to the main (west) bridge, from which you reach the platforms facing east, both via the steps and lifts. As a result, the "A" section of the platform will be behind you as you reach platform level.

Alternatively, you can use the east bridge which connects platform 8C to the east sections of the platform groups 9 to 11, 12 to 15 and 16 to 17. Note that there are no lifts to this bridge and that there are two flights of steps between platform and bridge level as opposed to five (shorter flights) to the main one.

TO YOUR NEW PLATFORM

From Platforms 7 and 8

From platform 7

Continue beyond the front of the train and move to your left onto platform 8C. Continue (west) beyond the steps from the east bridge, to the end of the building on your right, turn right and locate the gates to your right, after a few metres. Turn left here, you're now facing the steps and escalator to the west bridge, whilst the lower numbered platforms are in front of you to your right.

TO YOUR NEW PLATFORM

From Platform 8

Platform 8 is a long, bi-directional platform divided into four sections A through D from west to east, the lift is at the boundary of platforms 8 A and B. If you arrive on platform 8D or 8C get off the train and turn left, continue, beyond the end of the building on your right then turn right. Locate the gates on your right after a few metres. Turn left here, you're facing the escalator and steps to the main bridge, whilst the lower numbered platforms are in front of you to your right.

If you're on platform 8A or 8B get off the train and turn right. If you find a solid wall on your left, extending more than a few metres (you may be by the lift), turn back to the end of the building. Otherwise, turn left before the start of the building and locate the gates on your right after a few metres. Turn left here, you're facing the escalators and steps to the main bridge, whilst the lower numbered platforms are in front of you to your right.

TO YOUR NEW PLATFORM

From Platforms 9 to 17

From Terminus Platforms

From Platforms 10, 13, 14 and 17, move beyond the front of the train and locate the lift, steps or escalator to the main (west) bridge, on your right (platforms 10, 13 and 17) or left (from platform 14). Go up five flights of eight steps, escalator or lift onto the bridge.

Note that there's a landing of about 20 metres between the fourth and fifth flight from platforms 16 and 17.

The bridge gives step and lift access to platform groups 1 to 8, 9 to 11, 12 to 15 and 16 to 17. In addition, there's escalator access to platforms 1 to 8.

Turn left from the steps or escalator (right from the lift) for higher numbered platforms. Turn right from the steps or escalator (left from the lift) for lower numbered platforms. For platforms 1 to 8, continue to the end of the bridge. The down escalator and steps (between this and the up escalator) are to your right and the lift to your left. Continue (east from the foot of the steps or escalator, to the gates in front of you. From the lift, move left, to avoid the steps and escalator then continue (east) towards the gates which are in front of you. The lower numbered platforms are behind you, to your left.

TO YOUR NEW PLATFORM

From Through Platforms

The long platforms, 9, 11 and 12, are divided into four sections (A through D) such that the lift is near the boundary between the A and B sections, whilst the steps leave from the B section. Platform 15 is divided into A and B sections with the steps and lift within the A section. Platform 16 has the steps and lift towards the west end of the platform, just before the start of platform 17.

As these platforms are bi-directional, it's hard to give any clear directions which cater for every likely eventuality. We trust the above gives sufficient guidance as to how to go about finding the steps and lifts onto the bridge.

At bridge level, turn left from the steps or escalator (right from the lift) for higher numbered platforms, turn right from the steps or escalator (left from the lift) for lower numbered platforms. For platforms 1 to 8, turn right from the steps or escalator (left from the lift) and continue to the end of the bridge. The down escalator and steps (between this and the up escalator) are to your right and the lift to your left. Continue (east from the foot of the steps or escalator, to the gates in front of you. From the lift, move left, to avoid the steps and escalator then continue (east) towards the gates which are in front of you.

The lower numbered platforms are behind you to your left.

The steps to the east bridge are opposite the doors to the goods lifts, which are not for public use. If you find yourself on the east bridge, which is narrower than the other one, turn right for lower numbered platforms (left for higher). For platforms 1 to 8, continue to the end then go down the steps to your left onto platform 8. Continue (west) from here, beyond the end of the building then turn right and locate the gates on your right after a few metres. Turn left here, you're facing the escalator and steps to the main bridge, whilst the lower numbered platforms are in front of you to your right.

Note that there are only two flights of steps onto this bridge as opposed to five onto the main one.

The following sections describe directions from the area inside the gates. If you're already at bridge level, bear in mind that (from north to south) platform groups 1 to 8, 9 to 11, 12 to 15 (two exits) and 16 to 17 are reached via respective exits.

To Which Platform?

  To Platforms 1 to 8
To Platforms 9 to 11
To Platforms 12 to 15
To Platforms 16 and 17

To Platforms 1 to 8

For Platform 1

Turn right (north) and continue, down a significant slope, to the wall in front of you, then turn left onto platform 1C.

For Platform 2

Turn right and continue to the top of the slope then turn left, down a flight of steps onto platform 2C, which is to your right. After some distance, you reach the end of the barrier to your left and locate platform 3B which is the left-hand (south) section of this island platform.

For Platforms 3 to 5

Tracks 3 and 4 start some distance west of those for the other platforms in this area. There is good tactile paving inside the edge of each platform and rails across the ends of the tracks.

For platform 3, we suggest you turn right (north), continue to the top of the slope, turn left, locate the steps to platform 2 in front of you then move left to the top of the slope to platform 3B, which starts on your left, a few metres beyond the foot of the slope.

Platforms 4 and 5 have level access from the gates, we suggest you turn right (north) move about twenty metres then turn left and continue onto the platform. If you find yourself going down a slope, you've gone too far and are heading onto platform 3.

As you continue (west) you'll find platform 5C to your left and, after some distance, platform 4B to your right.

For Platform 6

Bear right (about 1 o'clock) to avoid the escalator from the west bridge and continue (west) onto platform 6C, the track is to your right.

For Platforms 7 and 8

Turn left (south) follow the wall on your left, at the end, you're on platform 8B. Turn left, beyond the end of the building, including the steps from the east bridge and move left, just before the goods lift onto platform 7. Turn right and continue (east) onto platform 7B, we found no mention of 7A during our survey.
