Find an exit from a Platform

Describe Online

Overview

It would be good if we could reasonably restrict these directions to the routes from the platforms to the actual entrances to the station. This would include the trivial, level access to the south car park from platform 2 and the ramp and stairs routes from platform 1 to the north car park.

Unfortunately, we ought to consider how customers are to reach local buses in Deans East Road from this unstaffed station and how you could cross the tracks, via the road bridge, from each car park to the other platform. This latter will be covered in the Change Platforms page, so we won't duplicate that here.

See the Environs page for more details.

We note that the routes from each platform lead to opposite sides of the rail bridge in Deans East Road and that there is access to either side of this road, via each route. These directions are therefore restricted to:

All these routes include directions to the respective car park from the platforms.

The doors will open on your left as you face the front of the train. There is tactile paving along the edge of each platform.

We note that the exit from each platform is near or perhaps behind the rear of some trains, so we'll only consider your moving towards the rear of trains.

Stairs Access from Platform 1

As you go from the front of the train, you pass the shelter on your right before you reach the gap in the fence to the exit. There's a help point just before this gap. Note also that the posts are along the middle of this section of the platform.

Move to the far side of this gap then move right and continue up a flight of steps. Turn right, go up three steps then turn right again and go up a flight of steps. Turn left then go up three flights of steps to the north car park and turn right.

To reach Deans East road, continue, past the ramp exit then down the slope towards the road bridge.

For the West Side of Deans East Road

Take the first turning left and go up two flights of steps to road level. Move right, onto the pavement, there should be railings to your right. If you want the bus towards Falkirk, continue to the gap in these railings, the bus stop should be to your left.

GO TO END

For the East Side of Deans East Road

Continue under the main road, taking the second turning left and go up two flights of steps to road level. If you want the bus towards Livingstone Centre, turn left (180 degrees) onto the pavement, there are railings to your right. Continue, over the rail bridge, to the gap in these railings, the bus stop should be to your left.

GO TO END

Ramp Access from Platform 1

As you go from the front of the train, you pass the shelter on your right before you reach the gap in the fence to the exit. There's a help point just before this gap. Note also that the posts are along the middle of this section of the platform.

As you reach the gap, turn right (180 degrees) and follow the ramp up to the north car park, which will be to your right as you reach the top of the ramp.

For Deans East Road, turn right (180 degrees) then continue to the end of the car park.

For the West Side of Deans East Road

Turn left. If you find yourself going down a steep slope, you've overshot, turn back then take the turning right.

Continue, up the slope then take the turning right and follow the ramp up to road level. If you want the bus towards Falkirk, move right, onto the pavement, there are railings to your right, continue to the gap in the railings, the bus stop should be to your left.

GO TO END

For the East Side of Deans East Road

Continue, down the steep slope, under the road bridge. Note that there are two sections to this bridge, the first is under the main road, whilst the second is under a footpath. Take the turning left and follow the path round to your left, to road level. If you want the bus towards Livingstone Centre, turn left, there are railings to your right. Continue, over the rail bridge, to the gap in the railings, the bus stop should be to your left.

GO TO END

Stairs Access from Platform 2

As you go from the front of the train, you pass the shelter before you reach the gap to the south car park. Note, there's a help point just before you reach this gap. Go through the gap, between bollards, pass the foot of the ramp to your left then turn left towards the steps. You go up a flight of steps, turn left then up another flight. Turn right (180 degrees) then go up two flights of steps, onto the path then turn left.

For the West Side of Deans East Road

Continue onto the pavement, there should be railings in front of you. If you want the bus towards Falkirk, turn left and continue, over the rail bridge, to the gap in the railings, the bus stop should be to your left.

GO TO END

For the East Side of Deans East Road

I think it would be easiest to take the turning left, just before you reach the pavement. You go down two flights of steps, turn right then continue under the road and take the first turning right. Go up two flights of steps then move right onto the pavement. There should be railings to your right. If you want the bus towards Livingstone Centre, continue forward to the gap in the railings, the bus stop should be to your left.

GO TO END

Ramp Access from Platform 2

As you go from the front of the train, you pass the shelter before you reach the gap to the south car park. Note, there's a help point just before you reach this gap. Go through the gap, between bollards and turn immediately left (east) for the foot of the ramp.

We don't normally include compass points in this section of our guides, but I think this ramp is complex enough to warrant this departure from our normal practice.

Go up the slope, there are railings and a hand rail to each side, turn left (north) then immediately right (east).

Continue up the slope, turn right (south) then right again (west). Turn left (south) then left again (east).

Turn left (north) then almost immediately right (east). From here, the south path continues east, under Deans East Road.

For the West Side of Deans East Road

Turn right (south), then right (west). Turn left (south) then left (east). Turn right (south) then right (west). Turn left (south) then left (east) and continue up to the road.

If you find yourself going down a slope, under the road, you've overshot the right turning, turn back and take the turning left.

Note that, just before you reach the pavement, there's a turning right, down the slope, towards the housing development beyond the south car park.

As you reach the pavement, there should be railings in front of you. If you want the bus towards Falkirk, turn left and continue to the gap in the railings, the bus stop should be to your left.

GO TO END

For the East Side of Deans East Road

Continue east, down the slope, under the main bridge, then under the second bridge, up the slope. After some distance the path turns right (south) then right again (west) up to the east side of the road, just south of the top of the steps, there should be railings in front of you.

If you want the bus towards Livingstone Centre, turn left and continue to the gap in the railings, the bus stop should be to your left.
