FIND A PLATFORM FROM AN ENTRANCE
There is step-free access to platform 1 via the ticket office or via either of two paths beyond the station building. We believe the gated entrance before the station building is not normally used. See the Environs page for details.
There is stairs and lift access to platform 2 via the bridge. There are no direct entrances/exits to/from this platform.
Note that most of the posts are in the middle of the platforms.
As you move away from Bridge Street, along Station Road, you reach the forecourt, the station building is in front of you. The car park is to your left, beyond the building, the vehicle drop-off point is in front of you and the taxi pick-up point is to your right. As a result, vehicles cross this area in several directions, beware.
You can reach the platform via the ticket office or via either of the paths beyond the building. The first of these leads from the pavement just beyond the building, whilst the second leads from the car park.
The ticket office juts out from the rest of the building into the forecourt. The entrance is at the right-hand end, leading to your left. We believe that, if you followed the right-hand side of Station Road and continued forward to the fence or building in front of you then turned left, you'd locate the entrance in front of you after a few metres. Go through one door, continue up a slight slope, then through a second door into the ticket office.
The ticket sales window is in front of you and the door to the platform is at the far end of the right-hand side. We suggest you move forward, almost to the other side of the ticket office before turning right, so as to avoid the seating. You go through a door onto the platform, we believe you're beside the rear half of most trains. Note that we found the door to the platform had a heavy spring at the time of our survey.
If you continue beyond the station building, you can turn right and go directly onto the platform. You're beyond the front of three car trains, towards the front of four/five car trains and about in the middle of the longer ones.
This path leads from the car park, past the door to the lift, onto the platform. You're beyond the front of shorter trains and beside the front half of the longer ones.
This platform can only be reached via the bridge, which is about in the middle of the platforms, using the lifts or steps.
From the ticket office, or the first path, turn left and continue to the foot of the steps. From here you can either go up the steps or continue, under the bridge, then beyond the lift building then turn left (180 degrees) to the door.
From the second path, you can pass the lift door on your right before turning right and continuing to the foot of the steps. Turn right from here (180 degrees) for the steps.
You go up 5 x 7 steps onto the bridge, turn right, continue to the end then turn right again. Go down 5 x 7 steps onto the platform. Platform 2 is to your right, you're facing the front of the train. We believe you're about in the middle of InterCity trains and towards the rear of shorter ones.
See the lifts page for details of both lifts in this station. Go to bridge level and leave via the other set of doors. Turn left, continue to the recess to your left then turn left to the lift to platform 2. Go to platform level and leave via the other set of doors. Platform 2 is to your left, you're facing towards the rear of the train.
We believe you're beside the rear half of InterCity trains and may be behind the rear of shorter ones. If you need a three, four or five car train, we suggest you turn left (180 degrees) and continue beyond the bridge.
