This is a through station on the West coast Mainline between London Euston and Glasgow Central, though few of these services stop here. It is also a through station for services between Edinburgh Waverley and Manchester Airport, which is currently run by Trans-Pennine Express services.
The tracks run north/south serving separate platforms with platform 1, northbound lying west of platform 2, southbound. These are long platforms, designed for InterCity trains. Bridge Street crosses the tracks at the south end of the platforms.
All entrances/exits for this station give step-free access onto platform 1. The bridge, about in the middle of the platform, beside the front of shorter northbound trains, provides the only access to platform 2. There is lift and stairs access via this bridge.
The ticket office and waiting room is on platform 1, though there is asmall shelter on the southern half of platform 2 and a small covered area outside the lift on this platform.
There is step-free access via all entrances/exits to platform 1, plus lift and stairs access to platform 2 via the bridge. We therefore believe this station is accessible to Guide Dog and wheelchair users.
