Overview

There is lift and stairs access between platforms via the concourse. There is tactile paving along the edge of platform 2 and a short section at the north end of platform 3. There is no tactile paving on other platforms in this station.

We understand that all platforms are used for local services, though platforms 1 and 2 are used for mainline services between Glasgow Central and London Euston. Platform 1 serves southbound trains, whilst platform 2 serves northbound.

Platforms 3 and 4 are used bi-directionally.

From Platform 1, Southbound

As you go from the front of longer trains you pass a series of posts, with two benches on the right. There are also two electricity stanchions in the middle of the platform before you find the wall on your right.

As you move from the front of shorter trains, you go under the road bridge before you reach the gap to the lift, move right then continue forward for the door. Continue to the next gap then turn right (180 degrees) for the stairs.

As you go from the rear of the train, you pass the covered waiting area with pillars and electricity stanchions along the middle of the platform before you find the wall of the waiting room. The first gap beyond this leads to the stairs, move left then continue forward.

The next gap is to the lift, turn left and find the door on your left.

Via the Lift

The call button is to your right of the door. Go up to bridge level, leave via the other door and turn left.

The door to the lift is the door on your left, before the automatic door at the end of the passage, the call button is to your right of the door.

Go down to platform level, leave via the same door then turn right onto the platform. We believe you're near the rear of the train.

The door to the lift is the door on your left, before the automatic door at the end of the passage, the call button is to your right of the door.

Go down to platform level, leave via the same door then continue along the platform, beyond the station building. From here, you can go through one of the ramped paths down into the staff car park. Continue, between the bollards onto platform 3. We believe you may be behind the rear of the train, so suggest you turn left and continue to the end of the bollards on your left to be near the front of the train.

To Platform 4

Continue, through the automatic door at the end of the passage then continue, through the automatic door on the opposite side of the concourse, to the end of the passage. The lift door is on your left with the call button to your right of the door.

Go down to platform level, leave via the same door then turn right onto the platform. We believe you're near the rear of the train.

Via the Stairs

Go up two flights of steps, turn right and continue through the automatic door at the end of the passage.

Turn right, go down a flight of steps then continue to the end of the passage and turn right. Go down a flight of steps, turn right (180 degrees) then go down another flight of steps.

Turn left here, go down a slight step then turn left again and continue, up four steps, onto the platform. We believe you're beside the rear half of the train.

To Platform 3

Turn right, down a flight of steps then continue to the end of the passage and turn right. Go down a flight of steps, turn right (180 degrees) then go down another flight of steps.

Turn left here, go down a slight step then turn right and go between the rails at the end of this passage into the staff car park. Continue, between the bollards, onto the platform. We believe you're beside the front half of the train.

To Platform 4

Continue, through the automatic door on the opposite side of the concourse, to the end of the passage then turn right.

You go down three flights of steps to platform level, then turn right onto the platform. We believe you're beside the rear half of the train.

Note that there is tactile paving at the top and bottom of these steps and that the landings between flights are wider than others in this station.

From Platform 2, Northbound

As you go from the front of longer trains, you reach the wall along the middle of what starts as an island platform with platform 3. You pass several gaps in this wall which continues beside the staff car park.

As you go from the front of shorter trains, you pass a series of benches and gaps to the staff car park, before the platform narrows from the right. Beyond this are two more benches and a green area before the gap to the stairs exit. Beyond this is a high wall with a low (two metre) awning jutting from a blank door, before the wall juts out with the lift door in front of you.

As you go from the rear of the train, you pass a high wall which juts out around the rear of the lift. Turn left beyond this and find the door on your left. Continue, past a blank door, with a low orning (two metres) to find the gap to the stairs exit on your left.

To Platform 3

The Step-Free Route

You can go through one of the ramped paths down into the staff car park. Continue, between the bollards onto platform 3. We believe you may be behind the rear of the train, so suggest you turn left and continue to the end of the bollards on your left to be near the front of the train.

You go down four steps then continue, between the rails at the end of this passage into the staff car park. Continue, between the bollards, onto the platform. We believe you're beside the front half of the train.

The call button is to your right of the door, go up to bridge level then leave via the same door.

Go down four steps then take the turning right. Go up a slight step then turn right again. Go up a flight of steps, turn left (180 degrees) then go up another flight and turn left. Go up a flight of steps into the concourse.

From Platform 3

We understand this platform is bi-directional, however, for the purpose of these directions we'll assume that you get off a westbound train. In fact, we found a VT Stop sign towards the south end of the platform and no equivalent sign at the other end.

As you go from the front of the train you pass a wall, mesh fence then a series of bollards before the wall resumes. A series of bollards between the platform and staff car park now continues beyond the end of the wall. We suggest you turn right, cross the staff car park to the wall of the station building then turn left. The first gap to your right is the stairs exit, continue beyond the station building then take one of the ramped exits onto platform 2 for the lift.

As you go from the rear of longer trains, you may pass a gravelled area before you reach the bollards between the platform and the staff car park. We suggest you turn left, across the staff car park. From here you can go through one of the ramped exits onto platform 2 then turn right for the lift, or continue beside the station building for the stairs exit.

Go into the passage, round the rails at the beginning and continue, up four steps onto platform 2. We believe you're beside the rear half of the train.

Turn right along platform 2, pass the stairs exit, a high wall with a low (two metre) orning jutting from a blank door, before the wall juts out with the lift door in front of you.

From Platform 4

We understand this platform is bi-directional, however, for the purpose of these directions, we'll assume you get off an eastbound train. In fact, we found a VT 4/5 Car Stop sign in the gravelled area beyond the north end of the platform and no equivalent sign near the south end.

As you go from the front of the train, you pass a bench, the shelter and another bench before you reach the foot of the stairs. Continue beyond the stairs, past the gap under the bridge till the wall juts out again with the lift.

As you go from the rear of the train, you may pass a short gravelled area before you reach the rear of the lift building. Go beyond this, turn left and find the lift door on your left. If you want the stairs, continue, past the gap under the bridge then follow the wall on your left, to the foot of the steps. Turn left (180 degrees) here.

Via the Lift

The call button is to your right of the door, go up to bridge level, leave via the same door, turn right and continue through the automatic door at the end of the passage, then through the automatic door on the opposite side of the concourse.
