This is a through station on the mainline between London Euston and Glasgow Central. It is also a through station for local services between Cumbernauld, Lanark, Dalmuir and Milngavie.
The station lies just south of the junction between the mainline from Euston (north/south between platforms 1 and 2) and the local line (veering west, between platforms 3 and 4).
The station building, which includes the ticket office is between platforms 2 and 3, on the island which increases in width as you go south, ultimately including the forecourt. This building includes two levels: The concourse, including the ticket office and bridge to all platforms, is at street level, whilst the platforms are at a lower level which can be reached via stairs or lift from the concourse.
Platform 1, along the east side of the station, serves southbound trains towards Carlisle and Euston. Platform 2, east of the station building, serves northbound trains towards Glasgow Central.
Platform 3, west of the station building and platform 4, along the west side of the station, are bi-directional. We understand these normally serve local trains between Cumbernauld and Lanark in the east to Dalmuir, and Milngavie in the west.
A small, rectangular concourse at street level leads north to the bridge which is divided into three sections:
There is lift and stairs access throughout this station. We therefore believe the station is accessible to Guide Dog and wheelchair users.
