This is the eastern terminus for the Great Western line towards Bristol, Wales and the West, plus the suburban service to Reading, Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect services. It is also a through station on the London Underground Hammersmith & City Line.

The layout of the surrounding area has forced a northwest/southeast orientation to this station, hence the tracks leave heading northwest before veering left (west).

Station Layout

The station comprises a large rectangular concourse which gives direct access to platforms 1 to 12, Paddington Underground station and five exits/entrances to the station.

There are sixteen platforms running northwest from the station. These are numbered from 1 to 16 going southwest - northeast, of which platforms 2 - 3, 4 - 5, 6 - 7, 8 - 9, 10 - 11, 13 - 14 and 15 - 16 share island platforms.

A bridge six carriage lengths from the concourse, joins all platforms.

Although platforms 13 and 14 can be reached from the concourse via platform 12, platforms 15 and 16, which serve the London Underground Hammersmith & City Line, can only be reached via the bridge.

Note also that, since our original survey, platforms 10 - 12 have been included in the gated area and you're recommended to reach platforms 15 - 16, via the bridge from platforms 8 - 9.

The concourse is divided into two by a mainly glass wall running northeast/southwest. Northwest of this is the main body of the station, whilst to the southeast is the refreshments area.

Accessibility

There is step-free access throughout this station, except to platforms 15 and 16 which can only be reached via the bridge.
