Overview

There is level access from each entrance into the station plus stairs and lift access to each platform.

The platform usage is as follows:

  1. The eastbound Inverclyde line to Hillington West, Hillington East, Cardonald and Glasgow Central.
  2. The westbound Inverclyde line towards Gourock or Wemys Bay.
  3. The eastbound Ayrshire Line to Glasgow Central.
  4. The westbound Ayrshire line towards Ardrossan, Ayr, Girvan, Largs, etc.

There is tactile paving along the edge of each platform.

From the Main Entrance

At the time of our survey, the east doors were not in use. We're therefore assuming you come in via the first (west) doors nearer the pub.

As you come into the station, the ticket sales windows are to your left, the stairs to the intermediate level are through the open doorway to your right, the lift to platform 4 is on the right-hand side of the ticket office, beyond this doorway and the ramp to the low level passage is in the far right-hand corner.

To Platform 1

We presume you'd prefer to use the ramp into the lower level passage, rather than the three steps, in front of you, at the far end of the ticket office.

Follow the right-hand side, beyond the open doorway and the lift to platform 4, then take the turning right. You go down the ramp, at the bottom of the slope, turn left (180 degrees) then go down the slope and turn right at the bottom.

Follow the left-hand side, past a blank door, then the lift to platforms 2 - 3 and another blank door, before you reach the lift to platform 1 on your left. The call button is on the left-hand side of the doorway. If you find a button on the right, you've found the lift to platforms 2 - 3.

Go to platform level and leave via the other set of doors. You're in the waiting room, turn left and go through the door onto the platform. We believe you may be behind the rear of shorter trains and beside the rear half of longer ones.

To Platforms 2 - 3

We presume you'd prefer to use the ramp into the lower level passage, rather than the three steps, in front of you, at the far end of the ticket office.

To Platform 4

Follow the right-hand side, past the doorway on your right, then locate the door to the lift, beyond this. The call button is on the right-hand side of the doorway. Go up to platform level and leave via the other set of doors. You're in the waiting room, turn left and go through the door onto the platform, we believe you're beside the front half of the train.

Via the Stairs

Take the turning right then turn left and find the stairs, in front of you. These are divided by a central rail, we believe you're suppose to keep left. Go up a flight of steps, to the intermediate level.

To Platform 1

Turn left then take the turning right and continue to the end of the passage before turning right again. Go up three flights of steps to platform level. Note that there's no central rail in the first flight of steps.

At platform level, turn right onto the platform. We believe you're beside the rear half of shorter trains and about in the middle of longer ones.

To Platforms 2 - 3

Turn left then take the turning right and follow the right-hand side. Take the first turning right and go up two flights of steps to platform level.

Platform 2 is to your left, we believe you're beside the front half of shorter trains and about in the middle of longer ones. Platform 3 is to your right, we believe you're beside the rear half of shorter trains and about in the middle of longer ones.

To Platform 4

Turn right and go up three flights of steps to platform level, then turn left, through the open doorway, onto the platform. We believe you're about in the middle of longer trains and beside the rear half of shorter ones.

Note that there's a longer landing between the first and second flight of steps than that between the second and third. There's a gap in the central rail, across this first landing.

From the Old Sneddon Street Entrance

As you come into the station via the first (east) entrance, there's a ticket machine in the far left-hand corner and the stairs to the intermediate level go up right from the far wall. Turn right for the low level passage towards the lifts. You go through an open doorway, along a short passage before going through another doorway to reach the low level passage leading left. the lift to platform 1 is in front of you.

As you come into the station via the second (west) entrance, the low level passage leads away from you with the lift to platform one almost immediately on your right. turn left for the ticket machine and stairs to the intermediate level. You go through an open doorway, along a short passage then through another doorway. The ticket machine is in the far right-hand corner and the stairs are to your right, locate the foot of these then turn right (180 degrees).

To Platform 1

To Platforms 2 - 3

Follow the right-hand side of the passage, you pass the lift to platform 1 and a blank door before you reach the lift to platforms 2 - 3, the call button is on the right-hand side of the doorway. If you find a button on the left, you've found the lift to platform 1.

Go to platform level then leave via the other doors. You're in the third building on the platform. turn right for platform 2 and go through the automatic doors onto the platform. We believe you're beside the front half of the train. Turn left for platform 3 and go through the automatic doors onto the platform. We believe you may be behind the rear of shorter train and beside the rear half of longer ones.

To Platform 4

We presume you'd prefer to use the ramp into the ticket office, rather than go up the three steps at the end of the low level passage.

Continue to the far end of the passage, turn left and go up the first slope of the ramp. Turn right (180 degrees) and go up the slope into the ticket office. The ticket sales windows are on the far wall. turn left and follow the left-hand side for the lift to platform 4. The call button is on the right-hand side of the doorway. Go up to platform level and leave via the other set of doors. You're in the waiting room, turn left and go through the door onto the platform, we believe you're beside the front half of the train.

Via the Stairs

You go up two flights of steps to the intermediate level. These steps are divided by a central rail, we presume you're supposed to keep left.

To Platform 1

Turn right then take the turning right. Go up three flights of steps to platform level. Note that there's no central rail in the first flight of steps.

At platform level, turn right onto the platform. We believe you're beside the rear half of hsorter trains and about in the middle of longer ones.

To Platforms 2 - 3

Turn left then take the first turning left and go up two flights of steps to platform level.

Platform 2 is to your left, we believe you're beside the front half of shorter trains and about in the middle of longer ones. Platform 3 is to your right, we believe you're beside the rear half of shorter trains and about in the middle of longer ones.

To Platform 4

Turn left, continue along the passage then take the second turning left, past the top of the steps from the main entrance to your right, then go up the steps in front of you. Go up three flights of steps to platform level, then turn left, through the open doorway, onto the platform. We believe you're about in the middle of longer trains and beside the rear half of shorter ones.

Note that there's a longer landing between the first and second flight of steps than that between the second and third. There's a gap in the central rail, across this first landing.
