Special Notice

The redevelopment work at this station has led to the southern portion (right as you leave the station) of the forecourt being cordoned off. You can no longer turn right along Merkland Street, beyond the fire exit, or take the angled route towards Morrisons.

The hoardings to your right (south) as you leave the station, including the door from the fire exit, continue past a post with the SPT sign and four phone boxes. The hoarding turns right, leaving a path leading south, between the hoardings and the Morrisons car park.

Beith Lane, which runs to the west of the shops, has been reinstated with the hoardings to your right (west) and, initially, the wall of the shops to your left. After a few metres, the hoarding juts out from your left, leaving a narrow path, between the hoardings. The hoardings give way to wire fences to each side for a few metres, then the hoardings return and continue to the subway. You go down the slope into the subway under Beith Street. To reach the south side of Beith Street, turn right and right again, following the path.

The walkway from Beith Lane onto the north side of Beith Street is still not available, so you'll need to go beyond (east of) Morrisons to reach the north side of this road.

To your left (north) as you leave the station, the hoarding ends and the wall of the new ticket office juts out (east). This wall curves left (north) before a gap which, at the time of our survey, was closed by a metal gate. We understand this will not be available for public access. The shops start beyond (north of) this gap.

Note that there's now a square post between the wall of the new ticket office and the phone boxes supporting what will be a canopy outside the station entrance.

From Which Platform?

  From Platform 1, Eastbound Mainline
From Platform 2, Westbound Mainline
From the Subway, Inner Circle
From the Subway, Outer Circle

From Platform 1, Eastbound Mainline

The doors open on your left as you face the front of the train. The waiting area, with two sets of double, push doors, is towards the north end of the platform. We believe this is about in the middle of three-car (towards the rear of six-car) trains.

As a result of the building work at this station, much of the platform furniture is behind hoardings which extend to either side of the entrance/exit.

Go through the doors into the waiting area. The up escalator from the booking hall is to your right, with the downward one beyond it. Move forward about three metres, turn right to locate the escalator then go down into the booking hall. Turn left at the bottom and continue through the exit into Merkland Street.

Go through the doors into the waiting area, follow the low wall on your left towards the top of the escalators and turn left at the end. The left-hand escalator is downwards. Go down into the booking hall and turn left. Continue, past the escalators from platform 1, through the exit into Merkland Street.

From the Subway, Inner Circle

The doors open on your left as you face the front of the train. Go to the wall in front of you, turn right (towards the front of the train). The wall retreats left as you approach the foot of the escalators. You need the right-hand escalator, go up to booking hall level and turn right. Continue, past the top of the escalators from the outer circle, towards the gates. The automatic exits are towards the right-hand end of the gate line, whilst the manual gate is at the left-hand end. Go through the gates, turn right and continue, through the exit into Merkland Street.

As part of the building works in progress at this station, a row of posts has been erected along the (south) side of the booking hall. Two of these are in front of the automatic gates to the subway, whilst the remainder are outside the old ticket sales office which is to be demolished.
