The Pentland Auditorium

Overview

This is the main section of the auditorium, which can seat 600 people. The seating of the smaller auditoria (Sidlaw to the west, Fintry to the east) can be rotated to make a single, large auditorium seating up to 1200.

The stage is at the north end.

To Reach

There are two sets of double doors leading north from the Level 3 Link Passage, a level access door from the middle segment of the East and West passages, plus a stairs access door from the north segment of the East and West passages.

Via the Main (VIP) Lift

Leave the lift then bear right, through either pull door into the West Passage.

Through the South Doors

Note that these doors can only be reached via steps from the Pentland Foyer or the Link Passage.

Cross the passage, through the pull doors in front of you into the Link Passage. Continue up the five steps in front of you. Go through the pull doors then, avoiding the furniture, go through either set of pull double doors on your left, into the Auditorium.

Via Door 5

This is the most convenient level access route.

Turn left, through the pull doors into the middle segment of the passage and continue to door five, which juts out from the right-hand side. Go through this pull door, then go through the door on your right into the Auditorium. There are four wheelchair spaces to your right.

Via Door 6

This is the longer level access route, via the Pentland Foyer.

Turn right, go through the pull doors into the Pentland Foyer. Continue, past the escalator then the Main Stairs on your right, through push doors into the East Passage. Continue, through the pull doors (with horizontal handles) into the middle segment then continue to door 6, jutting out on your left. Go through this pull door, then through the pull door on your left into the Auditorium. There are four wheelchair spaces to your left.

Via the Escalators or Main Stairs

You reach the Pentland Foyer via the Main Stairs, facing West, or the escalator, facing East. There is a barrier wall with planters in front on the South side between the stairs and escalator and a pillar just to the north, again between the Main Stairs and escalator. Turn left from the top of the escalator, or right from the Main Stairs.

Via the South Doors

Continue up the six steps in front of you then go through the pull doors in front of you, into the Link Passage, cross this passage, then go through the pull doors in front of you, into the Auditorium. Row O (normally reserved for people with reduced mobility) is in front of you.

Via Other Doors

If you need to be nearer the front of the Auditorium, you can go through one of the doors from the passages.

For Door 5, turn left, go through the push double doors in front of you then continue forward, through the pull double doors into the middle segment of the passage. Continue to Door 5, jutting out on your right. Go through this pull door then through the pull door on your right, into the Auditorium.

For Door 7, turn left, go through the push double doors in front of you then continue forward, through the pull double doors into the middle segment of the passage. Continue through the push double doors into the north segment then go through Door 7, on your right. Turn left, go down a flight of steps then turn right and go through the pull door into the Auditorium, the stage is to your left, you're beside Row B.

For Door 6, turn right, continue through the push double doors into the East Passage. Continue through the pull double doors (with horizontal handles), into the middle segment and continue to Door 6, jutting out on your left. Go through this pull door, then through the pull door on your left into the Auditorium.

For Door 8, Turn right and continue through the push double doors into the East Passage. Continue through the pull double doors (with horizontal handles), into the middle segment. Continue, through push double doors, into the north segment and find Door 8 on your left. Go through this pull door, turn right, go down a flight of steps then turn left and go through the pull door into the Auditorium. The stage is to your right, you're beside Row BB.

Layout

When the Sidlaw and Fintry auditoria are separated from this, you come in via the south doors (from the Pentland Foyer) behind Row O. You can move to either end of this then go down a single step to the seating. This row is often used for people with reduced mobility.

Note that all steps have white nosings.

There's a section of blank wall to each side (these are the rear walls of the other auditoria. You can follow either side, down one step per row of seating until the wall retreats. This is the landing for Door 5 (left) or Door 6 (right).

Continuing north from here, the seating is divided into three blocks separated by aisles. As you come in via either side door, you're beside the relevant aisle. Note that you go down two half steps before you start going down the regular one step per row of seating.

When the smaller auditoria are added, the formerly blank walls to either side are replaced by aisles between seating from Row M to Row Y. This creates the large auditorium with two lobes from the Southwest (Sidlaw) and southeast (Fintry).

Each seat has a fold-away writing table.

Note that staff are available to assist as necessary.
