This is a prime location in central Glasgow, with the City Chambers to the east, Queen Street rail station in the northwest and various offices and other businesses around the other sides. The square itself is a large open space which frequently hosts concerts and other events.
Since the roadways round all four sides seem to be called "George Square", we have decided to distinguish the various pavements according to which side of the square they occupy. Since both sides of each are paved, we will call those pavements around the square itself "inner" and those serving businesses an other buildings will be called "outer". For example, the pavement running across the entrance to Queen Street Station and the Millennium Hotel is called the "outer north side" of George Square.
The rectilinear plan of the city centre allows us to define the bounds of the square in terms of the adjoining streets:
In addition, Hannover and North Hannover streets meet the south and north sides of the square, respectively.
There are pedestrian crossings at each corner of the square, though sadly the accessibility and usability of these for blind/vision impaired people is not consistent. We look forward to the time when all of them have tactile paving and rotating cones which would facilitate safe crossing of these busy roads.

You cross a double road between the Millennium Hotel and Queen Street Station.

There is no tactile paving at the Millennium Hotel (east) end of this crossing, though there is tactile paving at the Queen Street Station (west) end . There is a raised island, with no tactile paving or pedestrian control between the two halves of this road. |

North Hannover Street is the exit for taxis from Queen Street Station, coming south. Buses can go north on this street.
