Overview

As you come into the station, the platforms are numbered 1 - 4 from right to left, as follows:

  1. Circle Line, clockwise towards Tower Hill;
  2. Metropolitan Line terminus;
  3. Metropolitan Line terminus;
  4. Circle Line, anti-clockwise towards Liverpool Street.

Platforms 1 - 2 and 3 - 4 are island platforms, each of which is reached via the bridge which is about in the middle of the platforms. Note that there are two sets of steps between the bridge and each island platform, one leading away from and the other leading back towards the station entrance.

From the Entrance

As you come into the station, the ticket sales windows are on the left-hand side of the concourse and the gate line is in front of you. The manual gate is at the left-hand end of the gate line and the two automatic entrances are to your right of this. Note that the right-hand section of the gate line juts towards the entrance to include two exit gates.

Go through the gates.

To Which Platform?

  To Platforms 1 - 2, Clockwise
To Platforms 3 - 4, Anti-Clockwise

To Platforms 1 - 2, Clockwise

Continue, down a flight of steps then turn immediately right to avoid the planters. Continue, beyond the other sets of steps to the concourse. From here you can either take the turning right or turn left, if you find upward steps in front of you, you've overshot. In either case, you go down two flights of steps to platform level.

If you turned left, platform 1, Circle Line towards Tower Hill, is to your right, you're beside the rear half of the train, whilst platform 2, Metropolitan Line, is to your left, you're about in the middle of the train.

If you turned right, platform 1, Circle Line towards Tower Hill, is to your left, you're beside the front half of the train, whilst platform 2, Metropolitan Line is to your right, you're about in the middle of the train.

To Platforms 3 - 4, Anti-Clockwise

Continue down a flight of steps then turn left. From here, you can either take the turning left or turn right. In either case, you go down two flights of steps to platform level.

If you turned left, platform 3, Metropolitan Line, is to your left, you're about in the middle of the train, whilst platform 4, Circle Line towards Liverpool Street, is to your right, you're beside the rear half of the train.

If you turned right, platform 3, Metropolitan Line, is to your right, you're about in the middle of the train, whilst platform 4, Circle Line towards Liverpool Street is to your left, you're beside the front half of the train.
