LIFTS

Describe Online

Overview

There are six lifts in this station. One between King William Street and the Northern Line Concourse, four between the Northern Line Concourse and the Intermediate Level and one between the Intermediate Level and the DLR.

Note that, although the Intermediate Level is called "Northern Line Level" within the lifts, this is 21 steps above the Northern Line platforms.

There is, therefore, only lift access to the DLR via three sets of lifts from street level.

Note that the Northern Line Concourse is closed at weekends and after 21:00 during the week. If you need lift access through the station whilst the Northern Line Concourse is closed, you should use the call button on the lift at street level. A member of staff will attend to operate the lift and take you through to the open part of the station. This may take a few minutes. Similarly, if you need to leave the station via the lifts during these times, we suggest you arange this before you get on your train.

Lift 7, Between King William Street and the Northern Line Concourse

At Street Level

The lift is on the northeast side of King William Street, southeast of the first side street from exit 6. You pass the side door to a church, then Starbucks, then the recess to the lift.

The call button is some distance to your left (northwest) of the door, about 30 cm from the left-hand wall. You go in facing northeast.

In the Northern Line Concourse

The lift is on the northeast side of the passage beyond the lifts to the Intermediate Level, with an Oyster card reader opposite the door. The call button is to your left (northwest) of the door, just before the wall juts out, you go in facing northeast.

Inside the Lift

The control panel is to your right (southeast) with buttons arranged, from the top:

Between the Northern Line Concourse and Intermediate Level

There are four lifts, numbered 2 to 5, from the east, which operate automatically. Unfortunately, at the time of our survey, there was no audio and little visual indication of which lift was next to arrive.

In the Northern Line Concourse

The lifts are to your left (east) as you come through the gate line. You go in facing north.

In the Intermediate Level

The lifts are on the south side of the passage leading east, nearest the top of the steps to the Northern Line platforms. You go in facing south.

Inside the Lifts

These lifts operate automatically, we found no controls during our survey.

Lift 6, Between the Intermediate Level and DLR

At the Intermediate Level

The lift is on the south side of the passage leading east beyond the top of the escalators from the DLR. The call button (Down) is to your right (west) of the door, you go in facing south.

At DLR Level

The lift is at the north end of the passage to the east of the escalators to the Intermediate Level. The call button (Up) is to your left (west) of the door, you go in facing north.

Inside the Lift

The control panel is on the east side, that is to your right as you come in at DLR level, or left as you come in from the Intermediate Level.

The buttons are arranged, from the top:
