BLACKFRIARS UNDERGROUND STATION |
DESCRIBE ONLINE |
Zone 1
Our thanks go to Chris Cook for the following.
From Monday, 2 March 2009 until late 2011, Blackfriars Underground Station will be completely closed for rebuilding and the mainline station will also undergo extensive rebuilding work during this time.
Access to the mainline station will be restricted and all trains will use platforms 4 and 5 only, as the other three terminal platforms will be closed, whilst they are extended to be able to accommodate 12 car trains.
Customers are advised to avoid the station wherever possible while the rebuilding work is ongoing.
From Saturday 20 November 2010 to Sunday 16 January 2011, Blackfriars station will be completely closed so that the next phase of work can take place. This will involve moving the track from its current position, over to the right of the station where the new through running lines will be and the existing through lines will then become the new bay platforms. In other words the two sides of the station are swapping over.
The alternative stations while Blackfriars is closed will be City Thameslink (approx 5 minute walk) or London Bridge or Elephant & Castle (for underground connections to central London).
