This station is made up of two former stations, the Strand, serving the Northern Line (Charing Cross Branch) and Trafalgar Square, serving the Bakerloo. In consequence, there are two separate concourses. The Strand concourse lies under the Strand, northwest of Charing Cross Mainline Station, whilst the Trafalgar Square concourse lies southeast of Trafalgar Square, just southeast of the point where the Strand joins the square itself.
There are nine entrances/exits to this section of the station, which are numbered clockwise from that leading to Strand South. These are:
All these exits leave from a subway outside the Underground concourse. This subway is basically rectangular, under the Strand, running northeast/southwest. The Underground concourse takes a rectangle out of the northwest side of this space. A recess in the east corner leads to exits 1, 2 and 3, whilst a passage leads north from the north cornner, to exits 7, 8 and 9. The entrance/exit to the mainline station (exit 4) is near the south corner, whilst passages towards exits 5 and 6 leave northwest near the west corner.

You go up the slope to a T-junction with exit 1 to your left and exit 2 to your right.
the right-hand passage goes up 16 steps, going northwest. From here you can continue almost straight to exit 6, or turn left (southwest) down 16 steps to a passage which joins the passage to exit 5.
The passage to exit 5 leads northwest, past the passage from exit 6 on the northeast side, to the foot of the steps.

The passage to exit 7 leads west past ID Photo Shop on your right (north) to the foot of the steps to exit 7.
From concourse level, go up 15 then 15 steps, going northwest onto the southeast side of the Strand, opposite the end of Villiers Street.
From concourse level, go up nine then nine steps, going southeast onto the northeast side of Villiers Street, almost opposite the seven steps up to the forecourt.
From concourse level, go up ten then ten steps, going southwest. There's a long landing between these flights of steps. Turn left (180 degrees), go up nine then nine steps, going northeast to the forecourt. You're outside the Charing Cross Hotel entrance to the station, beside Boots.
The exit is via an escalator, which is to your left (northeast) of the steps.
From the mainline concourse, go down 14 then 13 steps, going northwest, into a passage which turns left then right again before you go down 14 steps, going northwest to concourse level.
This exit is signed Strand North Side, Duncannon Street and Trafalgar Square. Follow the left-hand passage leading northwest. From concourse level, you go up 16 then 14 steps, going northwest to street level. The Strand is behind you and Duncannon Street to your left. Note, Trafalgar Square is some distance to your left.
From concourse level, go up 16 steps, going northwest. Move slightly right then go up 21 steps going northwest to street level. You're on the southeast side of the Strand, outside the Strand entrance to the mainline station, beside Next.
This exit, signed Trafalgar Square, leads up from the passage leading west. From concourse level, go up 12, 12 then 12 steps, going west to street level. You're on the east side of Adelaide Street, the Strand is some distance to your left. Note, you're some distance northeast of Trafalgar Square.
This exit, signed Covent Garden, leaves from the north end of the passage. From concourse level, you go up 14 steps, going north, turn left (180 degrees) then go up 13 steps, going south. Turn left (180 degrees) then go up 16 steps, going north, to pavement level. You're on the south side of William Fourth Street, with the Strand some distance to your right.
From concourse level, go up 15 then 15 steps, going southeast onto the northwest side of the Strand, opposite the mainline station.
This concourse is reached via the subway from the southwest end of the Strand, or via the subway from the Cockspur Street exit.
This subway runs northeast/southwest. There are three entrances/exits to this subway, two at the northeast end, the third at the southwest.
From the northeast end of the subway, you go down seven steps, going southwest, into the passage divided into two by a central rail, keep left. The passage continues southwest into the Trafalgar Square concourse.
You go down 11 then 12 steps, going east into the passage. The walls of this passage are covered with murals depicting various historic scenes. You start going east, before veering left (northeast till you reach the Trafalgar Square concourse.
