FIND AN EXIT FROM A PLATFORM

Describe Online

Overview

The main exit is from the west end of each platform, that is behind the rear of eastbound and beyond the front of westbound trains.

Alternatively, you can leave via the Marylebone Road exit, which is open on Monday to Friday, between 07:45 - 09:30 and 16:45 - 19:00. You reach this exit via the east bridge, steps to this bridge leave near the east end or middle of the platform. That is beside the front half of eastbound, or rear half of westbound trains.

From 13 December 2009, these platforms will serve:

  1. Circle and Hammersmith & City lines eastbound
  2. Circle Line terminus, trains return via High Street Kensington
  3. District Line terminus
  4. Circle and Hammersmith & City lines westbound, trains continue to Hammersmith

The doors will open as follows, as you face the front of the train:

There's no tactile paving along the edge of the platforms, though vbarriers extend between the end of the train and the foot of the steps towards the main exit.

To the Main Exit

From platforms 1 - 2, go beyond the rear of the train and up two flights of steps to the west bridge. Continue forward, up another flight of steps to concourse level. From here, you can follow the right-hand wall round, to your left through the manual gate, or turn left, continue to the wall in front of you and turn right. The gate line is in front of you with a Wide Aisle exit at the left-hand end and the automatic exits to your right of this. Go through the gates and follow the passage through the exit.

GO TO END

From the District Line (platform 3), continue beyond the rear of the train, from platform 4, westbound continue beyond the front. Go up two flights of steps, then another flight to concourse level. The gate line is in front of you with a Wide Aisle exit at the left-hand end and the automatic exits to your right of this. Go through the gates and follow the passage through the exit.

To the Marylebone Road Exit

Although there's a barrier across the end of platform 1 - 2, we did not find one across the ends of platforms 3 - 4. We therefore recommend you don't go behind (east of) the east steps to the bridge.

Perhaps the best way is to be sure you're in the front half of westbound, or rear half of eastbound trains, so you can be sure of which direction to take as you get off. In this case, you'll be aiming for the west steps which go up towards the front of eastbound, or towards the rear of westbound trains.

From platform 1 (Circle or Hammersmith & City) and platform 2 (Circle), go towards the front of the train, locate the steps leading up from the middle of the platform and go up two flights of steps onto the bridge. Turn left, go down a flight of steps to street level. The gates are in front of you. We only found automatic gates in this gate line, the right-hand gates are normally the ones you need. Continue through the gates, onto the south side of Marylebone Road.

GO TO END

From platform 3 (District), go towards the front of the train, or platform 4, (Circle or Hammersmith & City), go towards the rear. Locate the steps leading up from the middle of the platform and go up two flights of steps onto the bridge. Turn left, go down a flight of steps to street level. The gates are in front of you. We only found automatic gates in this gate line, the right-hand gates are normally the ones you need. Continue through the gates, onto the south side of Marylebone Road.
