DESCRIBE ONLINE |
This is a through station on the Hammersmith & City lines and the terminus for the District Line (Wimbledon Branch). From 13 December 2009, eastbound Circle Line trains towards King's Cross will pass through platform 1, whilst those from High Street Kensington will terminate at platform 2 and return via High Street Kensington.
Note that Edgware Road (Bakerloo) is a separate station.
There are two island platforms, running approximately east/west through the station, with platform 1 - 2 lying north of platforms 3 - 4. From 13 December 2009, these platforms will serve:
The concourse is a passage leading northeast then east towards steps down onto a bridge from which further steps lead down onto the west end of each platform. A second, east bridge, leads south from the Marylebone Road entrance, giving stairs-only access to each platform.
Note that all four tracks at this station are through tracks, though tracks 2 and 3 are used as termini for the Circle and District lines. At the time of our survey, there were clear announcements giving details of next trains from each platform.
There is stairs-only access through this station. We therefore believe the station is accessible to Guide Dog users, but not to wheelchairs.
