From Which Platform?

  From the Metropolitan Line, Platforms 1 and 2

Overview

The doors open on your right as you face the front of the train, there's tactile paving alon the edge of these platforms.

At the time of our survey, there is no lift access to the lower platforms and stairs access is via the Pentonville Road entrance.

Our route takes you beyond the east end of the platform, via the former exit, where we turn left toward the Level -2 concourse.

From the westbound, go to the rear of the train, go through the gap in the wall and turn right.

From the easstbound, go to the front of the train, go through the gap in the wall and turn left.

Go up the two flights of steps in front of you, turn left, follow the passage and continue, down six steps into the Level -2 concourse.

To Which Platform?

  To the Victoria Line, Platforms 3 and 4
To the Piccadilly Line, Platforms 5 and 6
To the Northern Line, Platforms 7 and 8
To the Victoria Line, Platforms 3 and 4

Turn right to the right-hand set of escalators, the left-hand escalator is normally the one you need and descend to platform level.

Note that this is the opposite way round to most island platforms with the northbound, platform 3 being to your right and the southbound, platform 4 to your left.

For the southbound, platform 4, go past the passage towards the Piccadilly and Northern Lines then go through the next gap on your left, onto the platform, you're near the front of the train.

For the northbound, platform 3, go through the third (last) gap on your right onto the platform, you're near the rear of the train. Note, I seem to recall that the first gap is at or slightly before the rear of the train, you're certainly at the west end of the platform.

To the Piccadilly Line, Platforms 5 and 6

Continue forward to the other side of the concourse and turn right to the left-hand set of escalators, the left-hand escalator is normally the one you need, descend to platform level.

For the Eastbound, platform 6, go through the first gap on your left, onto the platform, you're near the rear of the train. For the westbound, platform 5, go through the second (last) gap on your right, you're near the front of the train.

To the Northern Line, Platforms 7 and 8

Continue forward to the other side of the concourse and turn right to the left-hand set of escalators, the left-hand escalator is normally the one you need, descend to Piccadilly Line level, turn right (across the foot of the other escalators) then right again and follow the right-hand side to the top of the escalators toward the Northern Line. The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need, descend to platform level.

For the northbound, platform 7, go through the first gap on your left, onto the platform, you're near the rear of the train. For the southbound, platform 8, go through the second gap on your right, onto the platform, you're near the front of the train.

From the Victoria Line, Platforms 3 and 4

Overview

There is stairs access between this, the Piccadilly and Northern Lines, though you'll need to use the escalators to reach the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Lines.

Unlike most island platforms, the doors will open on your left as you face the front of the train. There is no tactile paving along the edge of these platforms. The main exit is towards the west end of the platform - the rear of northbound (front of southbound) trains.

To the Piccadilly Line, Platforms 5 and 6
To the Northern Line, Platforms 7 and 8
To the Metropolitan Line, Platforms 1 and 2

From the northbound, go towards the rear of the train and, ideally, turn right through the last opening in the wall, then left towards the escalators.

From the southbound, go towards the front of the train and, ideally, go through either the second or third gap from the end, continue to the opposite side of the area at the foot of the escalators, before turning right.

The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need. Go up to Level -2, the concourse and follow the left-hand side to locate the steps leading left (10 o'clock) before the gate line.

Go up these six steps, follow the passage, take the turning right and go down two flights of steps to platform level. You're before the east end of the platform.

For the westbound, platform 1, take the turning left, you're at the rear of the train. For the eastbound, platform 2, take the turning right, you're at the front of the train.

To the Piccadilly Line, Platforms 5 and 6

From the northbound, go towards the rear of the train and, ideally, turn right through the last opening in the wall, continue across the foot of the escalators, turn right and go through the first gap on your left.

From the southbound, go towards the front of the train and, ideally, go through either the second or third gap from the end, turn right and right again, through the last gap on your right before the escalators.

Turn left, go down two flights of steps, turn right then go down three steps. Turn right then go down six steps, turn left and go down six steps to Piccadilly Line level.

You can continue forwards from here onto the westbound, platform 5, before the front of the train.

For the eastbound, platform 6,continue, across the top of the escalators to your left then take the turning left and continue across the foot of the escalators from the Level -2 concourse, through a short passage onto the platform. You're near the rear of the train.

To the Northern Line, Platforms 7 and 8

From the northbound, go towards the rear of the train and, ideally, turn right through the last opening in the wall, continue across the foot of the escalators, turn right and go through the first gap on your left.

From the southbound, go towards the front of the train and, ideally, go through either the second or third gap from the end, turn right and right again, through the last gap on your right before the escalators.

Turn left, go down two flights of steps, turn right then go down three steps. Turn right then go down six steps, turn left and go down six steps to Piccadilly Line level.

From here, you can turn left and go down the escalators, or continue forward and turn left towards the stairs.

If you use the escalators, the left-hand escalator is normally the one you need, go down to platform level. For the northbound, platform 7, go through the first gap on your left, you're near the rear of the train. For the southbound, platform 8, go through the second gap on your right, you're near the front of the train.

If you use the stairs, continue, across the top of the escalators to the Northern Line platforms then take the turning left and continue, across the foot of the escalators from the Level -2 concourse then turn right. Go through the second gap on your left, down two flights of steps and follow the passage, which turns left before you go down six steps then turn right and go down a flight of steps onto the southbound platform 8, before the front of the train. For the northbound, platform 7, go through the first gap on your left, continue across the foot of the escalators, onto the platform, you're near the rear of the train.

From the piccadilly Line, Platforms 5 and 6

There is stairs access between this, the Victoria and Northern Lines, though you'll need to use the escalators to reach the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Lines.

The doors will open on your right as you face the front of the train. There is no tactile paving along the edge of these platforms.

The main exit is near the south end of the platforms - near the front of westbound (rear of eastbound) trains.

Note that the passage leading off the end of the westbound platform is intended as a route to the Northern and Victoria Lines, though you can take a turning right from here towards the escalators to the concourse. If you find down escalators, these are taking you to the Northern Line.

To the Victoria Line, Platforms 3 and 4

From the westbound, go beyond the front of the train and continue to the foot of the steps.

From the Eastbound, go towards the rear of the train and, ideally, go through the second gap from the end, cross the area at the foot of the escalators and continue onto the westbound platform before turning right and continuing off the end of the platform, to the foot of the steps.

You go up six steps, turn right and go up six steps, then turn left, go up three steps. Turn left, go up 11 then seven steps, then turn right into the area at the foot of the escalators from the Level -2 concourse.

For the southbound, platform 4, turn left and go through the first gap on your left onto the platform, you're near the front of the train.

For the northbound, platform 3, cross the foot of the escalators, turn left and go through the third gap on your right onto the platform, you're near the rear of the train. I recall the first gap may be behind the rear of the train, it's certainly at the west end of the platform.

To the Northern Line, Platforms 7 and 8

There is stairs and escalator access between these platforms.

Via Escalators

From the westbound, go beyond the front of the train into the passage then turn right towards the downward escalators.

From the Eastbound, go towards the rear of the train and, ideally, go through the second gap from the end, cross the area at the foot of the escalators and continue onto the westbound platform before turning right and continuing into the passage and turning right towards the downward escalators.

The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need, go down to platform level.

For the northbound, platform 7, go through the first gap on your left, onto the platform, you're near the rear of the train. For the southbound, platform 8, go through the second gap on your right, onto the platform, you're near the front of the train.

Via the Stairs

From the westbound, go towards the front of the train then through the last gap on your right. Note that the passage leading beyond the end of the platform leads to the escalators to the Northern Line, if you find downward escalators in front of you, turn right and go through the first turning left. Continue, across the foot of the escalators from the Level -2 concourse then turn rightand go through the second gap on your left.

From the Eastbound, go towards the rear of the train and, ideally, go through the second gap from the end of the platform. The passage you need leaves from the area at the foot of the escalators to the Level -2 concourse, between the two gaps to the eastbound, platform 5. Locate this passage.

Go down two flights of steps and follow the passage, which turns left before you go down six steps then turn right and go down a flight of steps onto the southbound platform 8, before the front of the train. For the northbound, platform 7, go through the first gap on your left, continue across the foot of the escalators, onto the platform, you're near the rear of the train.

From the Northern Line, Platforms 7 and 8

There is stairs access between this, the Piccadilly and Victoria Lines, though you'll need to use the escalators to reach the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Lines.

The doors will open on your right as you face the front of the train. There is no tactile paving along the edge of these platforms.

The exit is towards the east end of the platform - near the front of southbound (rear of northbound) trains.

Note that the passage with steps at the end of the southbound, platform 8 leads towards the Piccadilly Line.

From the Northbound, go towards the rear of the train and, ideally, go through the second gap from the end of the platform, cross the area at the foot of the escalators before turning right.

From the southbound, go towards the front of the train and, ideally, go through the last gap in the wall then turn left towards the escalators. Note that the steps in front of you, at the end of the platform, lead towards the Piccadilly Line.

The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need, go up the escalator, to Piccadilly Line level then follow the left-hand wall round to your left to the foot of the escalators leading up from the Piccadilly Line. The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need. Go up to Level -2, the concourse and follow the left-hand side to locate the steps leading left (10 o'clock) before the gate line.

Go up these six steps, follow the passage, take the turning right and go down two flights of steps to platform level. You're before the east end of the platform.

For the westbound, platform 1, take the turning left, you're at the rear of the train. For the eastbound, platform 2, take the turning right, you're at the front of the train.

To the Victoria Line, Platforms 3 and 4

It is probably easier to use the escalator to the Piccadilly Line level then continue up the stairs to the Victoria Line. We will, however, include details of the stairs route to the Piccadilly Line for completeness.

To the Piccadilly Line Level Via Escalators

From the northbound, go towards the rear of the train and, ideally, go through the second to last gap, into the area at the foot of the escalators, cross this area then turn right.

From the Southbound, go towards the front of the train and, ideally, go through the last gap into the area at the foot of the escalators then turn left.

The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need, go up to the Piccadilly Line level, turn right, continue to the wall in front of you then turn left to locate the foot of the stairs to the Victoria Line, to your right.

To the Piccadilly Line Level, Via Stairs

From the Northbound, go towards the rear of the train and go through one of the gaps, continuing through onto the southbound platform. Turn right and continue to the stairs at the end.

From the southbound, go beyond the front of the train, to the stairs in front of you.

Go up a flight of steps, turn left then go up six steps and follow the passage, which turns right before you go up two flights of steps to Piccadilly Line Level. Continue, across the area at the foot of the escalators, to the wall in front of you and turn right. It is probably easiest to go through the gap on your left, onto the westbound platform, turn right and continue, beyond the end of the platform, to the steps in front of you.

Go up six steps, turn right then go up six steps. Turn left, go up three steps, then left and up two flights of steps to the Victoria Line level. Turn right from here, into the area at the foot of the escalators.

For the southbound, platform 4, turn left, then go through the first gap on your left, onto the platform, you're near the front of the train.

For the northbound, platform 3, cross the area at the foot of the esclators, turn left and, ideally, go through the third gap on your right onto the platform. You're near the rear of the train. I recall the first gap putting you behind the rear of the train, you'd certainly be at the west end of the platform.

From the Northbound, go towards the rear of the train and go through one of the gaps, continuing through onto the southbound platform. Turn right and continue to the stairs at the end.

From the southbound, go beyond the front of the train, to the stairs in front of you.

Go up a flight of steps, turn left then go up six steps and follow the passage, which turns right before you go up two flights of steps to Piccadilly Line Level, into the area at the foot of the escalators from the Level -2 concourse.

For the eastbound, platform 6, turn right then go through the gap on your right, before the foot of the escalators, onto the platform, you're at the rear of the train.

For the westbound, platform 5, continue, across the area at the foot of the escalators, to the wall in front of you then turn left. Go through the gap on your right onto the platform. You're near the front of the train.
