Overview

The entrances are divided into two groups, those into the main concourse and those into the Borough High Street concourses. There are distinct entrances to each island platform from each group.

The lifts in this station give direct access to the Jubilee Line from the main concourse, whilst there are two lifts to the Northern Line, one from street level to the lower concourse at the Borough High Street entrance and the second lift takes you from here to platform level.

Although there are stairs-only routes between platforms, there is only escalator or lift access between the entrances and platforms.

At platform level, there are barriers along the edge of the Jubilee Line platforms with doors that are only open whilst a train is standing at the platform. There's tactile paving along the edge of each Northern Line platform.

From Which Entrance?

  From the Main Concourse
From Borough High Street

From the Main Concourse

You can enter this concourse via either of the entrances from Duke Street Hill, from the Bus Station (via the east entrance) or from Joiner Street.

This concourse is divided into two sections at slightly different levels. The west entrance from Duke Street Hill brings you into the upper level, outside the gate line to the Northern Line, whilst the east entrance, plus those from Joiner Street bring you into the lower level, outside the gate line to the Jubilee Line. Note that there are four steps down into the concourse from the east entrance whilst there's step-free access from Joiner Street.

There are ticket sales windows on either side of the lower level of the concourse - the larger office is on the 'Duke Street Hill (north) side, whilst the other is between the two sections of the gate line.

To Which Platform?

To the Jubilee Line Via the Lift
To the Jubilee Line via Escalators
To the Northern Line Via Escalators and Stairs
To the Jubilee Line Via the Lift

As you come into the main concourse from Joiner Street, you pass a manual gate to your left, followed by automatic exits then entrances. There's another manual gate at the far end of this section of the gate line. Go through the gates, move to the left-hand side of this space and continue into the passage leading away from you, to your left of the escalators. The lift is in front of you at the end of this passage.

At the time of our survey, this had an up button to your right of the door, though we assure you, the lift goes down from here! Go down to platform level and leave the lift via the opposite door. Continue along the passage to the T-junction. Turn left for the westbound, you're behind the rear of the train, or right for the eastbound, you're before the front of the train.

Go down to the intermediate level, continue along the passage, which veers right, to the next set of escalators. Again, there are three escalators, together this time, the right-hand one is normally the one you need. Go down to platform level.

As you come into the main concourse from Joiner Street, you pass a manual gate to your left, followed by automatic exits then entrances. There's another manual gate at the far end of this section of the gate line. If you come in via the west entrance from Duke Street Hill, you're facing the gate line opposite the exit-only from the Northern Line. You need to move left, to the entrance section of the gate line. There's a manual gate to your right, just before the top of the five steps down to the lower level, at the time of our survey, there was an automatic exit next to this then the automatic entrances. Go through the gates and continue to the escalators in front of you.

There are three escalators of which the left-hand one is normally the one you need. Go down to the intermediate level and continue, following the passage, which curves to your right, until you reach the T-junction. Turn right here and go down two flights of steps to platform level. From here, you can take the turning left to the southbound, beside the front half of the train, or right to the northbound, beside the rear half of the train.

From Borough High Street

The street level concourse is off the east side of Borough High Street, whilst the Borough Market entrance, on the west side, takes you via stairs into the lower concourse.

>From the street level concourse, you can follow the right-hand side, round the barrier beside the escalators and turn right. Continue to the wall then tturn right again and go down to the lower concourse then turn right. The ticket sales windows are on the right-hand wall and the gate line is in front of you.

If you need the lift, follow the left-hand side and bear left into the recess to your left, the lift is in front of you, go down to the lower concourse, leave the lift via the same door, turn left and follow the passage which turns right, then turn right again at the end.
