FIND A PLATFORM FROM AN ENTRANCE

DESCRIBE ONLINE

All entrances to the station lead from the junction between Old Street and City Road to the subway. There are 8 in all. For details, see the Entrances and Exits page in DETAILED DESCRIPTION.

You go down 8 steps from the subway into the ticket hall - this is the real entrance to the station. The following directions should prove useful. Note that all entrances/exits are referred to as exits.

The ticket sales booths are to your left (about 11 o'clock) behind Tensa barriers, the gate line is in front of you with the manual gate at the left end, the entrances also tend to be towards the left side of the gate line. Go through the gates.

If you wish to use the escalator, continue forward, bearing slightly right to locate the single (descending) escalator.

Continue forward from the foot of the escalator, the passage turns right then left before you go down two flights of stairs to platform level. Platform 1, northbound is on your right, you're near the rear of the train. Platform 2, southbound is on your left, you're near the front of the train.

If you need to use the stairs, go through the gates and turn right. Continue to the wall in front of you and move slightly left to locate the top of the stairs. Go down one flight of stairs before turning right then down the spiral, to your left. At the foot of the stairs, continue to the wall then turn left. Continue to the end of the passage before turning left again (right takes you to the WAGN platforms 3 - 4), go down a flight of stairs and a short slope onto the end of platform 1, northbound at the front of the train. For platform 2, southbound, continue along the platform and take the first passage on your left, you're at the rear of the train.
