Overview

At the time of our survey, the automatic gates in the main concourse were set so that  alternate gates were entrances and exits. This is done to accommodate increased traffic out of the station during the peak morning period, 0730 to approximately 1030. During these times, some of the escalators, which normally go down, will be going upwards. However, we can assume that the left hand escalator will be going down at all times and, since the intermediate level joins the entrances to all platforms, these instructions will presume that the left hand escalator (signed to northbound) is used.

The manned ticket sales booths are on the outer wall of the concourse, between exits 3 and 4. There's a manual gate near the left-hand end and another about in the middle of the gate line.

From Which Entrance?

From Exit 1

Turn right, go through the gates and continue past the first pair of escalators and Station Control Room on your right, before turning right to go down the escalator.

From Exit 2

Turn right, go through the gates and bear left to go down the escalator.

From Exit 3

Turn left, go through the gates and bear left to go down the escalator.

From Exit 4

Turn left, go through the gates and turn left to go down the escalator.

From the Ticket Sales Booths

Continue, away from the booths, through the gates and turn left to go down the escalator.

To Which Platform?

At the foot of the escalator, you're in the intermediate level.

For the Northbound Bakerloo or Victoria Lines

For the Southbound Bakerloo and Victoria Lines

Move into the right-hand section of this area (there are three gaps in the middle wall) then continue forward to the escalator. The left hand one will normally be going down. At the foot of the escalator. You're now in the central reservation of the southbound platforms. The Bakerloo Line, platform 3 is on your left, The Victoria Line, platform 5 on your right. You're near the rear of the train.

For the Central Line

Turn right at the foot of the escalator, when you reach the right-hand wall, beyond the foot of the escalators to the southbound, move to your right to locate the escalators to the Central Line. The left hand one will normally be going down. Follow the passage from the foot of the escalator, turning right, till you reach the wall in front of you. Turn left here and go down one flight of stairs onto the island platform. The westbound, platform 1 is on your right, you're near the front of the train. The eastbound, platform 2 is on your left, you're near the rear of the train.
