MAGIC & ONYX: bringing your Digital & Physical Environments together

Use your magnification software and camera seamlessly together, capture information images and use them as study notes later. Sound intriguing? Come see how it works!

Times are changing, and so is the way we use our computers, our assistive technology, and our expectations of how these should work together. Video magnification cameras are not new in the marketplace, but cameras that are combined with the latest image management software, speech synthesis, and screen magnification can bring the digital and physical worlds together seamlessly to create an intuitive work environment heretofore unavailable to the low vision user. MAGic® users with Onyx® can now sit at their desk using their magnification software to take notes on their PC while at the same time accessing information off in the distance or right on their desktop using the Onyx video magnifier.

This session will demonstrate how a user can be accessing information stored in their computer and taking notes on the computer, while at the same time zooming in on information in another part of the room and toggling to the handout they just received. We will demonstrate capturing images of information from various locations in the room, and toggling between them and the live camera where information is changing on the white board.

The Onyx video magnifier has built-in features such as zoom level adjustment, find feature, contrast adjustment, selectable color modes, image flipping, freeze frame, and focus lock. The presentation will demonstrate to the audience each of these features and explain how the feature is used in everyday use.

The EyeMerge software, which installs as part of MAGic, expands the functionality of the Onyx camera, providing such things as increased color modes, capturing images, toggling between images, storing and retrieving images. These and other features will be fully explained and demonstrated, giving audience members the ability to fully appreciate the full functionality of this video magnifier system.

Throughout the demonstration, the audience will witness the handshaking that takes place between the MAGic screen magnification and the camera image to provide users full access to their computer, while at the same time providing easy access to images around the room, or stored on the user’s computer.

Onyx comes in multiple configurations. While this demonstration will focus primarily on the PC editions of the Onyx, we will show and discuss the ONYX Flexible-arm, ONYX Swing-arm, and ONYX Deskset models as well. We will discuss the advantages of the various configurations.

Come and experience all the best features of JAWS & MAGic 11 in both Vista & XP

Freedom Scientific's Eric Damery will be on hand to demonstrate many of the exciting new features in JAWS 9 and MAGic 11 running at the same time. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the latest technology advances in Screen Reading/Magnification introduced exclusively by Freedom Scientific, the world leaders in Access Technology.

This will include:

  • New on screen tracking in IE 6 and 7, Outlook and Outlook Express, and even PDF files where no cursor is available. No longer will sighted users looking over your shoulder, struggle to understand where the Screen Reader is currently focused on the page.
