Introduction

Key to description

The scope of this description will cover the internal areas and up to 30-50 metres surrounding the building or bus station.

We will be using compass directions together with solid object locaters. i.e. North is the entrance, south the exit and East, left is a row of shops and to the right west you can find the platforms/stances from 1 to 12.

Closed and open platforms:

A closed platform is one with a track to one side and a wall, or other obstruction, to the other side. An open platform, has a track on either side of it.

Covered walkways:

A covered walk way has glass on both sides with a roof and often access doors or exits and entrances either leading to road crossings or the bus drop off point.

Stances:

These are bus stops.

Automatic gates:

A gate which can be opened by pressing a smart card or disabled pass to a touch sensitive pad located at waist height.

Disabled access gate:

A wider gate allowing entry of two people, which can be opened by pressing a smart card or disabled pass to a touch sensitive pad located at waist height.

Moving walkway:

A step-free angled moving escalator.

Audio Units:

These are approx. a metre off the ground with a single push button.

Pressing the button will cause the stance number, departure of next bus and the current time to be spoken.

National Entitlement Card (for Visual Impairment):

Customers with this card can now access the Subway by presenting their National Entitlement Card directly at the ticket gate.

Tensa barrier:

This is a queuing system using a retractable nylon black cord with metal posts.

Courtesy crossing:

This is a crossing point with tactile paving but neither sounder nor rotating cone.
