Describe Online

Location

The station lies southeast of the junction from Blackfriars Bridge (south), New Bridge Street (northwest), Queen Victoria Street (east) and Victoria Embankment (west).

Puddle Dock (south) leads from Queen Victoria Street, to the east of the station.

Entrances and Exits

Strictly speaking, there are two entrances/exits to this station, one from the local street network and the other from Blackfriars Mainline Station.

There is an extensive subway under the road junction which complements the local road crossings and another subway under Puddle Dock, see the Local Features section of this page, which we will not duplicate for our description of the Mainline station.

The Main Entrance

This leads southeast into the Underground Concourse.

To/From Blackfriars Mainline Station

This entrance/exit is on the south side of the Underground Concourse, see our guide to Blackfriars Mainline Station for details.

Local Road Crossings

We found crossings at each arm of the junction outside the station, though most of these were not in action at the time of our survey.

The Junction Outside the Station

East Arm, Queen Victoria Street

This is a single-stage crossing with tactile paving. The posts, with push button and rotating cone are west of the crossing. That is to your left as you cross away from the station, or to your right as you cross towards it. Note that there are also posts with push button but no rotating cone to the east of this crossing.

Local Buses

We found no bus stops within the scope of this survey.

Local Features

The Subway

Although this claims to address exits 1 - 8, at the time of our survey, we could not identify exits 3, 4 and 7. There was extensive work in progress at the time of our survey, so these may become available in due course. Exit 2, south of the station, was not labelled at the time of our survey, so we're assuming this is exit 2 as the others are numbered in a clockwise direction from the north corner of the junction.

Exit 1

This is on the northeast side of New Bridge Street, just northwest of Queen Victoria Street.

You cross tactile paving then go down 18 steps, going southeast, bear right (south and go down six steps, going south. There’s a barrier along the middle of this subway.

Continuing south, a passage crosses (east/west). The east arm is not labelled, however the west arm is signed exits 7 and 8.

Exit 2

Turn left (east) then left (north) then left (west) and go up 11 then 11 steps, going west, to street level, just south of the station building. There was no tactile paving at the top or bottom of these steps.

Exits 4 - 6

Continue south from the junction.

You go up the slope, there's a barrier along the middle of the passage. We foud no evidence of exit 4, turn right (west) for exits 5 and 6.

Exit 6, Riverside Walkway

You go down 17 steps, going west then veer left south onto the Riverside Walk.

Exit 5

Turn left (south) before the steps at exit 6 and go up 21 steps going south, then turn left (east) onto the pavement of Blackfriars Bridge. The road crossings were not available at the time of our survey.

Exit 8, for New Bridge Street (West Side) Ludgate Circus and Post Office

Continue west, up 16 steps, going west, across tactile paving, to street level. We noted no tactile paving at the foot of these steps.

The Subway Under Puddle Dock

The entrance on the east side of this street is labelled Exit 10, whilst that on the west is Exit 9.

Exit 9

As you leave the station, turn right (east) along Queen Victoria Street, cross an alley then go down 8, 13 then 3 steps, going east into the subway.

Exit 10

Turn right (south) at the end and go up 12 steps, going south onto the pavement.

Each of these exits is adjacent to steps from the ramp leading east from the Mainline station, see our Guide to Blackfriars Mainline Station for details.
